“Park anywhere,” Seff ordered. He squeezed my hand as he grinned and opened the door. As we all exited the car, Seff turned to everyone. “Stay here. I’ll be right back.”

It surprised me he didn’t let go of my hand but dragged me along with him.

Halfway across the parking lot, I said, “Why didn’t you want the others to come along?”

“I got enough hittin’ my nose right now. I don’t need more competition.”

I nodded. “I don't need to be here, either.” I released his hand.

He stopped and stared at me. I felt our bond flare, holding me tighter, encircling me. A touch of fear seeped into my veins, along with protection and possession.

“Seff?”

His jaw clenched before he whispered, “I need to keep you close.”

His need to protect me almost brought tears to my eyes. I’d felt nothing like it before. Of course, my parents had tried to protect me, but I’d never felt that protection in my blood—in my bones.

“Seff.” I stroked my free hand over the thin white scar running along his jaw, my thumb over his soft bottom lip. The last thing I wanted to do was crush his protective male ego. And yes, we needed to have a long, hard talk. “I’m a wolf, too. I have my own weapons.”

“You’re not scared of this.” He cocked his head, his brows rising, causing a furrow in his forehead. “Not one thing about this hunt has you on edge.”

I smiled and shook my head. I understood what needed to be done.

Show no mercy. Kill on sight.

He blinked down at me and his entire body relaxed. I hadn’t even been aware he’d been anxious until the feeling disappeared. He loomed over me, cupping my face.

“Sakana, I’m gonna kiss you silly now.”

Then his lips were on mine, his tongue in my mouth, swirling, licking, sucking. Gods, my male, mysakana, could kiss. And even standing in the middle of a parking lot, I tried to give him back everything he gave me. At least, make sure the silliness didn’t go only in one direction. Affecting him as much as he affected me was my goal. I sank my hands into his dark, shaggy hair and pulled him closer. His arms went around me, forcing our bodies to meld together. Our scents combined with orange blossoms and honey, and I inhaled it deeply. It had been a few hours since we’d made love, but those few hours felt like days. I already missed his warm, naked skin against mine. My body ached for the feel of him moving so deeply inside me. My mouth watered as I remembered the scents we created together. To use one of Seff’s descriptive words—luscious.

Seff pulled away, a smile spreading across his face. “You silly yet?”

My heart raced as I sucked in a deep, shuddering breath. “Yes...possibly...a little.”

“I promise, when we’re done with this hunt, I’m gonna show you how much I love kissing you and not just on your beautiful mouth.” He playfully arched one dark eyebrow. “You know what I mean?”

A hot, tingly feeling hit my cheeks as I nodded. I knew what he meant, though no other male had ever used his mouth on me in that way.

He cocked his head in the other direction and lifted my chin with his finger. “You okay with that?”

I swallowed hard. Just thinking about those kinds of kisses made me feel as though my entire body blushed. I stuttered as I nodded. “Yes...yes...yes. I’m very okay with all your kisses.”

“Good.” He winked. “Now, let’s get this done so we can get back to kissin’.”

Seff’s long-legged strides took us through the store, weaving down one aisle and the next, dragging me along with him. He followed a scent trace I couldn’t pick out to an aisle with a large swath of empty shelving. A clerk stood stocking gauze rolls from a cardboard box. The cart next to him had several boxes of gauze pads, gauze wraps, and adhesive tape.

“Can I help you find something?” he asked without looking our way.

Seff smiled. “Looks like someone needed some first aid supplies.”

“Yeah, a guy came in late last night and cleaned us out.” The clerk glanced over at us, his eyes catching on me and staying.

I stepped closer and lowered my voice. “Were you here last night? Did you see the man?”

The clerk shook his head, his eyes never leaving mine. “No, but someone said he drove around back by the dumpster.”

Seff nodded and smiled. “Thanks.” He steered me away and back toward the exit.
