Seff didn’t even blink. “We need to get the young inside before the storm gets any worse.”

I nodded but didn’t let go of his hands. I wanted to hold him forever. I wanted him to take this horrible sadness away.

My brother marched past us, heading for the Jeep.

“Deck, we need to get the twins and—” Seff started.

“I’m going to find my parents,” Deck interrupted.

“It’s snowing too hard. You’ll never make it back—”

“I’m going.” He slammed the Jeep door and attempted to back out. The tires spun in the snow. He shifted gears and plowed forward without success. He wasn’t taking the Jeep anywhere. “Fuck!” His hands slammed down on the steering wheel. The engine shut off, along with the headlights. He stepped out, shucked his clothes, then shifted into his wolf. He wasn’t staying. He took off at a run.

“Dumbass.” Seff shook his head. “He should’ve waited.”

“He might make it to town,” I said offhandedly as I looked in the direction my brother had run. “We’ve made the run many times but, not in this kind of weather.”

Seff? Seff?I’d heard that name before. I looked up at Seff, and once our gazes locked, I couldn’t look away. I felt, deep inside, as though he drew me to him in some strange and wonderful soul-binding way. As though we were connecting on a higher level than just through our clasped hands.

“Seff? Seff Weylan?”

“Yeah.” He tilted his head as his brows furrowed. “How’d you know?”

“My cousin, Jessy.”

“Desarae, I...” He released one of my hands to scrub his rough hand over his face. His shoulder-slumping exhale created a thick white cloud that nearly blotted out his handsome features.

“Seff Weylan.” His name left my lips like a prayer, which almost felt wrong in a way. He wasThe Seff Weylan. The wolf who had challenged Jessy’s mate, Dain, at a full moon, right after a tribunal. Jessy said Dain had kicked Seff’s ass. Seff had been exiled from their pack for several months. Then, he saved Jessy’s life and the lives of other members of her pack. Their Alpha had lifted his exile and forgiven him. Jessy and Dain had forgiven him. The wolf in me seemed to calm for a split second, then sprang into alert as I remembered what I needed to do. “We need to get to the twins.”

Unfortunately, we didn’t have time for in-depth introductions. I released his other hand, dropped his jacket from my shoulders, and shifted into my wolf form. He bent, unlaced his boots, and stripped out of his remaining clothing.

Dear ancient gods, he was a beautiful male.

And he is mine.

I didn’t know where that came from so I pushed it aside.

I turned and raced off into the forest, filled with the strangest feeling that my future was following behind.

CHAPTER FOUR

Big, wet, cottony clumpsof snow clung to the lodgepole pines and bare branches of the aspens. The creaks and groans of the heavy branches sounded like fireworks going off in the distance. Tucked beneath the trees, the greenish-brown patches of groundcover, ferns, and dead wildflowers were sheltered from the snowfall, for now.

I trotted carefully through the steadily building drifts. We didn’t need to crash through the forest in a frantic rush to find the twins. They were safe. I was sure of that.
