I sighed, getting irritated with the whole situation. It was a yes or no question. “Would it kill you to finish your sentences?” I was beginning to think I should have listened to my first instinct and gone back to my desk.

Gina pursed her lips and narrowed her eyes.

I put my hands together and pointed them at her. “Look, either you can do this for me or you can’t. If you tell me no, I will figure something else out.”

She cleared her throat and snatched her phone from the corner of her desk. “Oh, I can do this for you,” she said, looking at her screen.

I smiled. “Wonderful. I’d like someone who’s clean-cut, and I would prefer a gentleman.”

Gina snorted and looked up from her phone. “I’m confused. Do you want a date, or do you want to come?”

Craning my neck, I quickly checked behind me to make sure no one had heard her comment before turning back to her. “I want to”—I cleared my throat—“come,” I whispered.

“That’s what I thought.” Her gaze dropped to her cell again. “Give me your phone number, so I can give you the details once I find someone.”

I rattled off my digits. “You don’t have anyone in mind?”

She grinned, and something about it made me take a step back. She seemed way too happy to help me all of a sudden. “Oh, I have someone in mind all right. I just need to make sure he doesn’t have plans.”

“Oh.” This was a good thing.Right?

“I’ll text you when I know for sure.”

I nodded. “Thank you.”

She smiled again with a glint in her eye. “My pleasure.”

With that, I turned around and headed back to my desk.

I wasn’t there for more than an hour when I got a text.

Unknown number:It’s Gina. I made an “appointment” for you at 7 tonight.

Me:Tonight? I can’t do tonight.

I was planning to stay late and get some extra work done.

Gina:Do you want me to hook you up or not? You didn’t say anything about when, and I was under the impression you wanted it sooner rather than later.

I bit my lip. She did have a point. If I met with this guy, I would feel better tomorrow and probably get more accomplished.

Me:Yes, I want it. Give me the details.

Gina:What’s to give? His name is Dom, and here’s his address.

Her next text was a location on Google Maps.

I immediately clicked on it to see where I was going. It was a residential area, but it wasn’t in the safest neighborhood.

Me:How well do you know this man?

Gina:Dom is a friend of mine. You’ll be fine. I wouldn’t send you somewhere to get hurt, especially since your text messages would lead straight back to me.

It seemed Gina understood exactly what I was asking.

Me:Thank you.

I waited for her to tell meyou’re welcome, but it seemed she was done with me, so I was on my own for the next part of this escapade.
