"Is that why you were looking for me? To let me know that you're leaving?" My voice raises slightly. I'm not his mother or his nanny, I don't need to know the man's comings or goings.
"Not exactly, I wanted to speak with you about the changes in my life. Now that I've become" he tilts his head from side to side as if he were on the fence about a decision. "Let's say more domesticated, there's going to be things here that I'm not going to be able to do anymore. I don't want to leave anything to chance, so I think this would be a good chance to pull you up in the ranks." His face goes serious now, and he pays attention to my reaction.
Moving up in the ranks? I don't even know what the hell that means. If it's what I think it is that means he's going to be trusting me with a lot more information. That also means I'm closer to blowing this case wide open. "I'm listening." I focus more on him.
"I knew that would pique your interest. While I'm running around, I'd like it if you'd make sure everything, I need done, gets done. When I'm not here, the men will listen to you. That means you're going to have to get your hands a little more dirty. I don't suppose you have a problem with that?"
I shake my head right away, "Absolutely not."
"Good, then I have your first task as my right-hand man." His eyes glaze slightly, and that giddy crazed excitement pulses around him, "I need you to pick up Sabine and bring her back to me. It's not going to be as easy as a snatch and grab, so you're going to have to get in deep. Get her to trust you, and then do whatever you have to in order to get her back here."
I do my best to keep my reaction even, but inside I know this is only the beginning.
Getting close to Sabine will be a fucking nightmare. I've seen her and I know she's the type of woman that no one messes with. The type of woman that has so many walls built up around her, it's impossible for anyone to get close.

Sabine is incredibly attractive and if I weren't on this case, I'd definitely try to go for a shot with her, but that's not what I'm here for. I'm going to have to convince her not only to trust me but I'm also going to have to make sure she makes it out of this mess alive.
