“Hmm...” He swept the crop down her stomach and between her legs, resuming where he had left off before he got all slap happy. “Put your shoulders back and stand straight.” Wrapping his arm around the small of her back, he pressed into her spine. “Submissive posture is extremely important. Your Dominant tells me you’re taking yoga.”

She inhaled, breathing in his crisp scent, trying to hold off the tingling in her core.

“Like submission, yoga takes much discipline, but once you master it your breathing, posture, and flexibility will improve.”

Her muscles tensed, and without thinking she pushed up on her toes, causing her to lean forward. Martin’s strong frame blocked her from falling forward. Her feet were bound to the cross, but her hands were not.

“See why posture is so important?” Martin placed the crop on the table.

He held her for a moment, staring into her eyes before positioning her against the cross, this time securing her hands to the wood. “I’m asking for a lot tonight. I know you can handle it.” He caressed her cheek. “Take a moment to settle down. I won’t keep you restrained for much longer. You can look away from me and calm your mind.”

As she lowered her gaze, he moved across the room. Her heart still beat hard against her chest, and no matter how much she tried she couldn’t seem to settle herself. Something wasn’t right. His fierce personality should have startled her, but in that moment, he had held her and she found herself craving more than she should. Was it wrong to want this?

“Julian.” Martin’s voice pulled her from her doubt inflicted thoughts. “I’d like a few more minutes with her.”

“She can handle it.” Julian’s warm, familiar voice centered her. She remembered why she was there. She had his approval. There was no shame in what they were doing.

Martin stood behind her this time, running his fingertips along her shoulders and down her arms. His touch was soothing. “As you move forward in this journey, the tasks that seem so difficult to complete now will become second nature. You’ll learn to obey without hesitation. You won’t forget simple rules, but your Dominant will continue to push your limits. A good Dominant will put forth new rules, harder tasks. Julian is a good Dominant. You need to become a submissive worthy of his talents.”

She closed her eyes and relaxed, concentrating on his voice.

“You slipped up tonight.”

She dropped her head, allowing embarrassment to fill her. She wanted to prove to Martin she was capable of doing this. He was a busy man who didn’t waste his time with submissives who weren’t serious.

“There’s no humiliation in your mistakes.” He untied the scarf, freeing her hands and rubbing her wrists. “Do you know why?”

“No, Sir.”

“Because you rebounded beautifully.” He came around to face her. “After I struck you three times, you could have fallen apart. You could have told me to slow down or stop, but you didn’t. You can’t possibly understand how impressive that is to me, but I am impressed, Kayla.” He stared at her for a few moments. “Thank you for allowing me this time with you tonight. Not just here in the playroom, but in my office as well. Your ability to speak freely to me demonstrates how serious you are in this journey. I promise I will do my best to guide you and your Dominant. I can be a patient man.” He stroked her cheek before dropping to his knees and releasing her ankles from the shackles. “I’m here for as long as you both need me.” He rose and held her gaze for a minute. “I’m here, Kayla.”

“Thank you.” Julian stood behind Martin. “We appreciate the time you’re spending with us.”

“You’ve got a very determined woman in your grasp.” Martin faced Julian. “I’ll leave the two of you alone. Spend as much time in here as you need.”

As Martin left the room, Julian moved closer to Kayla.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered. “I tried, I did, but...” Tears streamed down her cheeks and a rush of emotions came tumbling out. “I screwed up. I wanted to do better.”

“Hey.” He pulled her close. “You were amazing.”

“I don’t feel very amazing.” She sobbed into his shoulder. “I broke every rule.”

“He expected you to.” He rubbed her back. “I expected you to.”

“What?”

“You’re learning. No one thought you would do everything right.” He lifted her and carried her over to the pillows set up across the room. “Didn’t you hear what Martin said?” He sat down, cradling her in his lap. “It wasn’t about the mistakes. It was about the way you handled them.”

“You’re not upset?”

“Why would I be upset?”

“You admire Martin. I don’t want to embarrass you in front of him or make you think bringing me here was a mistake.”

“You could never embarrass me.” He held her close. “You’re crying because you want to be perfect. I don’t need you to be perfect. I need you to be happy, content, and satisfied. We’re here because we’re in this together. Tonight got intense, but you got yourself together and proved to both me and Martin you belong here.” He gently kissed her. “Now you need to prove it to yourself.”

“I got emotional.”
