“Do you want me to go upstairs and see if she needs anything?”

“She just wants a dark room and a cold compress.”

“Poor girl, but it will all be worth it in a few months when that adorable baby comes.”

“I can’t wait.” He smiled. “Caroline’s a trooper. I told her I wanted to come back and say good night to everyone, but she told me to stay down here for a bit.”

“You’re not going to, are you?”

“No, I want to be with her.”

“You’re a good man.”

“Speaking of good men.” He gazed around the bar. “Where is Julian?”

“On a call.” She ran her finger around the rim of her glass. “He’ll be back soon.”

“I’m guessing life with an obsessive-compulsive attorney is harder than you thought it would be.”

“My life is everything I imagined it to be as I drooled over your sexy friend when I was a kid.”

“Please.” He held up his hand. “I don’t want to hear about your schoolgirl fantasies of Julian.”

Kayla laughed.

“Everything is going well?” Her brother turned serious.

“I can handle his work schedule.”

It was the submissives that kept coming out of the woodwork that bothered her more. Dave had sent his granddaughter on a vacation and assured Julian that she would not be returning to the firm. Julian was relieved he didn’t have to get into the details of his past with her.

“I’ll see you in the morning for breakfast.” Jack kissed her cheek. “I’ll take the long way through the lobby and get Julian off the phone for you.” He winked. “No man makes my sister wait.”

“Tell Caroline I said good night.”

“I will.”

As he walked away, Kayla realized how happy she was for her brother and his wife. They were in love, happily married, and having a baby. Jack and Caroline had the life most could only dream of. Two successful people who worked hard at their jobs. They had recently built a beautiful home in the suburbs, and they were on their way to filling it with babies.

Gazing across the room, she watched Jack disappear into the crowd of people, wondering if she and Julian could ever have a normal life. Not that she would trade what they had today, but was marriage and a family in their future? Could people with such eclectic sexual tastes ever strive for more?

From where she was seated at the bar she could see Julian in the lobby. As he stood in the corner by the large windows, he spoke on the phone. His posture straight, his tall, muscular frame filling out his dark gray custom suit. Nothing out of place. She giggled when she recalled Jack’s description of Julian. He was definitely her OCD attorney. She could leave normal behind. What Julian had to offer her was far more intriguing.

“Where’s Julian?” her father asked as he approached the bar.

“He had to take a call.” Why was her man so popular tonight?

“I knew from the time he was young, he was going to be successful. He’s always had determination and ambition.”

“That’s pretty accurate.” He’d made her so determined these past few months. “He seems to be rubbing off on me.”

“That’s not a bad thing.”

You might think otherwise if I told you what he has me doing.“Are you enjoying your birthday?”

“Very much.” He looked around the room. “I’m very fortunate to have so many wonderful friends and family to celebrate with. Your mother has outdone herself.”

“She always does.”
