"Oh, I know so," he kissed the back of my hand, and for the entire drive, Dorian didn't release my hand.

Nikoli coming home right now wouldn't be wise, but I was looking forward to spending time with my two boys just like old times. Like Nikoli had said, it was about time.

Once Dorian and I left Wolfcreek behind, I knew he was driving us to the neighboring town, Nor Valley. It was quite some time since I'd visited, over two years ago, I believed, and I took note of the new buildings and streets.

There were a few new high-rise buildings, cafes, restaurants, and apartment buildings, and I spotted a sign about a theme park. It was an overall great little mini-city.

With the sun setting and the reflection of the orange sky on the skyscrapers, it was a beautiful view and pleasant change.

Nor Valley was for those who wanted a taste of city living, while Wolfcreek was more mellow and quiet. I used to enjoy school trips here when I was younger, and I'd wanted to live here for a time.

Of course, Mom had no interest in leaving Wolfcreek, and I got my wish to experience city living in college.

When Dorian pulled to the curb, crawling slowly behind the most gorgeous Audi I'd ever seen, I eyed the hotel we were pulling up to. I blinked rapidly, a silent question of 'what the hell' while looking from the hotel to Dorian, who was laughing at my reaction.

Golden Sailor was the hotel's name, and it was $3000 a night. I knew because I checked a few years back as a treat for Mom and had to find alternatives. The entrance alone, which was made of pure gold, was a statement piece all to itself.

Nor Valley attracted many people from the wealthy, 1% of society, humans and supernaturals alike. Like Wolfcreek, Nor Valley was a heavily blended city with humans and supernaturals co-living, but the tourist market was continuously booming because there were witch cafes, Siren lounges, and I heard there was even a secret Succubus nightclub.

This place learned to capitalize on blended living in the best way.

We had to wait until the valet got to us, and while one valet took Dorian's keys, another helped me out of the car.

“I’m impressed,” I whispered to Dorian while looking around. “I’ve got questions.”

"And I won't be answering them," he kissed my temple. "Tonight, we'll be having fun. Focus on that.”

I looped my arm through his. “Lead the way.”

I continued to take in my surroundings until I spotted the most gorgeous dress I’d ever seen.

“Wait,” I released Dorian and walked to the small shop beside the hotel.

It was tucked away and looked a little rundown, or rather the hotel, and its extravagance overshadowed the shop's charm and all the dresses in the showcase. The one that caught my eye was a pale lilac dress, a blend of silk and sheer patterned material.

The sheer material was placed below the right breast and traveled across the stomach to the left leg. It continued to the floor while the silk material went around the dress as a covering, but it wasn't symmetrical. On the right, the silky material was sewn at the waist as it typically would and covered the entire right leg.

However, on the left, the material was sewn below the left breast and hung at the side, allowing the sheer covered leg to be displayed.

It was sexy yet elegant.

"Do you like it?" Dorian whispered by my ear, and I jerked a little, frightened because I'd forgotten he was with me for a second.

I nodded. I loved a good dress.

“I do,” I replied when the lights in the shop turned off, and the door opened.

A woman with shoulder-length black hair stepped out, locked the door, and froze when she turned and saw us. I was struck by her eyes. They were a striking pale blue, and recognition hit me.

"Carla?" I exclaimed, and she frowned. I stepped away from Dorian. "It's Marian. We met in high school. You wore a killer painted jeans to the Wildlife class trip to Wolfcreek. I asked you how you did it, and you randomly had videos of the process on your phone.”

She rocked back on her heels. “Marian!” she hurried down the steps. “You look so different.”

We hugged each other.

“So do you,” I laughed while she’d expectedly matured over the years, she still had a round doll face. “It’s been years. How are you?”
