Chapter 18 - Dorian

I got comfortable on my recliner and crossed my arms while waiting for Marian to return. Hearing her say she loved me finally made my night. It overshadowed everything else.

I already knew how she felt, I could see it in her eyes, but I wasn't going to rush her.

Absolute trust was when others showed or expressed their feelings without being forced. I wanted that. I wanted her to feel she could trust me with her heart again. I wasn't hurt by her saying she's buried her love for me. I understood why.

I'd known the truth behind my actions, but still, to bear the pain of my choices, I filled the void she left behind with a goal to be good at the thing she encouraged me to be, someone that protected others.

Tonight she was having fun, and that was all I'd wanted. She was cooped up at home when she wasn't at the supermarket, and I knew it was stifling her.

Watching her eat, laugh, drink—in moderation, of course, and have fun was fulfilling. I wanted to hear her laugh, not cry, and the security here was top-notch. I was with her, but they'd add a cushion of protection.

We still had no idea what tricks Isaac had up his sleeves.

I’d put the movie on, the same romance movie we were meant to watch many years ago. She'd probably seen it since then, but I wanted to surprise her.

When four minutes turned to six, and then eight and Marian hadn't returned, I got up to search for her. Once inside the room, nothing could be heard outside, but the second I opened the door, I was hit by booming music, clinking glasses, and laughter.

Isaac's scent stood out to me, though, amid the smell of cigarettes, alcohol, and perfume. I ran down the hall and through the door to the lounge. People were dancing, chatting, and having the time of their life, and I took a deep breath.

I growled.

Isaac was here without question, although his scent had a slightly more pungent kick than usual.

"Where is she?" I growled, and everyone stilled, a woman in the crowd screamed, and the music stopped. I walked to the bar. "Where is she?"

“—Are you talking about Ms. Lopez?” The bartender stuttered. “She went to the bathroom.”

The crowd parted, allowing me to pass, and I threw the entrance to the bathrooms open, marched by the man's bathroom, and entered the females’.

Two women by the sink screamed, and I walked in nonetheless. Marian's scent was strong in here, but so was Isaac's. My heart was racing so fast, my pulse drowning out every sound that I couldn’t hear the women yelling for me to get out.

I threw the stalls open, ignoring them while they ran out, and in the last booth, I bent down to pick up a small lock of hair.

My hand trembled while lifting it to my nose. It was Marian's hair, and my body started to shake. My wolf was howling, and I smelt Mr. Horton when he came in.

How could this happen? How did this happen?

Closing my fist over the hair, I looked over my shoulder, my fangs elongated, and Mr. Horton laid a frightened hand over his heart.

“Mr. Wolffang, we just found two of our security guards drained of their blood.”

“Keep everyone away from the bodies and don’t let it be known, or there will be panic. The person that killed them has already left,” I ran through the hotel back to the room, grabbed my phone, and left.

There was no saving Isaac now that he’d murdered people.

Confused guests leaped out of my way while I was making my way outside, but I needed to stay on Marian's scent and Isaac's, too, before they started to fade.

When my feet hit the pavement outside, I dialed Killian's number, and he answered on the second ring.

“He has her!” I started running, following Marian’s scent. “Isaac has her!”

“What? How?” Killian questioned, and I wished I could answer. Right now, all I knew was that Isaac got to her because of my neglect! “Where are you?”

“Nor Valley,” I answered. “We were at Golden Sailor, but I'm following their scent now. He got her in the bathroom Killian, the fucking bathroom, and he killed two security guards."

“Shit,” Killian grumbled. “I’m coming. We’ll portal to your location.”
