He looked like himself and had his killer smile I'd missed. I saw he wasn't grey or sickly pale, so I hoped he was healthy.

“I’m okay, Marian,” he clasped his hands behind his back. “I did a little traveling."

“Isaac, I gave you my blood and put you in a horrible position of reliving…”

He placed a finger on my lips and shushed me. He shushed me!

“You have nothing to be sorry about, Marian. You gave me your blood to save my life and yours; if anyone should apologize, it's me. You’re the one that has fang marks, and I’m sorry for dragging you into the middle of my family drama. I’m sorry if I’d hurt you.”

He took my hand and covered the marks on my wrist. “You could have been killed because of me and… by me, and you saw a side of me I hated for a long time. I don't hate it anymore, but it's not who I have to be, it’s not who I want to be. I was ashamed after you saw me like that and ran because you were the first person to accept me in a long time.”

“Now, I know you were told a lot by Ian,” he looked hesitant. “About my feelings for you, but I want you to know, I value you as a friend above all else. You're happy, and that's all that matters. I hope it won't make things awkward?”

I covered his hand with mine. "It won't, and I accept this you and the one that saved my life too. I am sorry that you weren’t able to save your brother.”

He looked away. “Ian didn’t want to be saved.” He released my hand. "The story I told you, about once being a human and falling like that boy, I was never human, clearly, but it was the truth that it was the only memory I have of my Mom. That day when I fell, Ian was the one that pushed me because he thought Mom preferred me. We’ve been fighting since the day we were born."

"Our mom was shunned after giving birth to us, so it was only us three. Ian hated his life, believed he deserved everything under the moon, and became cruel. I don't remember her, but I can recall she did everything she could to keep us safe, and—I saw how she was treated by vampires, supernatural creatures, and then she was staked by humans. With her gone I became as cruel as Ian.."

He watched the cars driving by before turning to me. "We never had a place, and that was how Ian and I became what we were, monsters."

"I'm sorry," I told him, and he smiled.

"It's okay," he said, looking at the shop.

Diana was standing there, watching us, and then she went back inside.

“You have a lot of people who care about you,” Isaac said. “That’s good.”

"You're leaving again, aren't you?" I asked, and he nodded.

He held his head back, and I watched his eyes squint while looking through the tree leaves.

"My brother is gone, and it's time I stopped running." He looked down at me without lowering his head. "I'm going to do some traveling, and I think I'm going to start a coven of my own and maybe eventually find a mate."

"You should do that, and I know you'll find someone soon, especially with that face but don't be a stranger, okay," I said, and he grinned. "You know where I live."

"Thank you," he said softly while leaning forward. "You're a good woman, Marian, and a great friend. Of course, I won't be a stranger, but you won't see me for a while."

I hugged him, and he rested his chin on my head.

"I'm going to miss you," I said, my voice trembling, and he stepped away.

"I'm going to miss you too," he suddenly looked transparent, and my face dropped. What the hell was happening? "This is my royal power," he explained. "That's why I can never be found if I don't want to be."

He winked at me, and I could see the tree through him!

"Goodbye, beautiful, and congratulation," his eyes fell to my belly. "You're going to be a great mother."

He vanished, and I laid a hand on my belly.

What the hell did he just say?
