“Yeah, I think maybe we have.”

“Let’s not do that again.”

“Yeah, let’s not. I think it would kill Callum.”

“Callum? Why Callum?”

“I’ll tell you later.”

“Alright.” Mikayla took his face in her hands. “I love you, too, by the way. Just in case you didn’t get that memo. And you know, not in a friend way. In a love way.”

“Right, I thought that’s what you meant.” Rafe reached up and pushed her hair back from her face. She thought she could bask forever in the light in his eyes. They kissed each other with all the pent-up love they’d both been hiding for too long.

Then Mikayla, sighing happily, rested her head on his shoulder, content to be in his arms again. She closed her eyes, listening to the rain falling on the tin roof, dreaming about the future they were going to share. “Oh shit! I can’t marry you!” She exclaimed, sitting bolt upright.

“Huh? Why not?” Rafe didn’t seem too perturbed by this startling announcement, since she hadn’t moved out of the tight circle of his arms.

“Because then I’ll be Mik Mack and Len’ll call me Paddy Whack and I won’t be able to stand it.”

Rafe gave a bark of laughter. “Christ, I love you. How about if I make him call you Mrs. McKenzie.”

She kissed him again. “Mrs. McKenzie. It has a good ring to it.”

“Good.”

She settled into him again.

“Whose house are we going to live in?” He ran his hand up and down her back.

“Yours. It has a better view of the ocean. But I’ll want to put a new kitchen in.”

“Oh, well, that’s handy.”

“How so?”

He told her about pulling down the rest of the wall, then Callum coming over and pulling out the kitchen, and the ensuing chat.

“Oh, he’s a good brother.”

“He is. But enough about him.”

“Yes, enough about him. Take me inside and give me one of those toe-curling orgasms you’re so good at.”

“That’s a great idea.”

“And tell me you love me again.”

“I love you again.”

“God, you’ll be a great dad, with jokes like that. I love you, too.”
