“Sooner rather than later, apparently, since you’re paying.”

“Let’s all go.”

“To Melbourne?” She pushed up to look at him, her eyes gleaming.

“Yeah, why not? Mum, Mik, Juniper and you all need to go together anyway, so we might as well all go.”

“That’s a great idea.”

He pulled her to him for a hot kiss. “I’ll organize it then. No carpooling though. We’ll go in my car. I don’t care what everyone else does.”

“Okay.”

“How do you feel about car sex?”

“I love it.”

“Ever had car sex?”

“Nope.”

“Christ, you’re perfect.”

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

When Callum Sinclair decided to get something done, it got done. Two days after Callum suggested the trip, Leah was pulling up out the front of Nora and John’s place. Callum had told her to meet him there at around ten am. She hadn’t really understood why he couldn’t just pick her up from her place, until she turned the engine off and glanced down the driveway. Ah, now it makes sense, she thought to herself. Callum and John were standing next to a very fancy sports car. Sleek. Deep red. Convertible. She grabbed her luggage from the trunk of the car. Callum and John looked up at the sound of her wheeled suitcase being dragged down the drive.

“Hey.”

“Hi.” Leah let Callum take her suitcase, pressing her smiling lips to his when he leaned down for a kiss. “Nora all set?” she asked John.

“No. Which is why I’m hiding out here. She’s repacked her suitcase three times and mine twice. I’m a sixty-one-year-old man. I can pack my own goddam suitcase for a trip of four days.” He rubbed his hand over his face, a gesture familiar to Leah. Callum often did it when he was agitated. It made Leah smile. “You’d think no one in the history of the goddam world has ever had a daughter get engaged before.”

Callum and Leah laughed. “You love it, Dad.”

“Yeah.” John slipped his hands into his pockets. Grinning. “How’s the new car, Leah? Going well?”

Leah nodded. “It sure is, thank you. I’m loving it. I was actually going to suggest to Callum that we give it a run to Melbourne. You know, just to give me a chance to get used to it.” She bit the inside of her cheek as she looked at Callum. He rubbed his hand over his face, in an exact imitation of his father’s gesture moments before.

“Oh, well, I thought that we could…”

“You don’t like my Mazda? After all the effort your dad went to, to get it for me?” She shot John a quick look, biting harder on her cheek to stop from laughing when she saw his eyes dancing.

“Ah, it’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just that, I was planning…I mean, I figured you would…”

It was too much. Leah cracked up laughing. “I’m totally joking. As if I would prefer my Mazda over this.” She gestured towards the car, laughing even harder when she saw Callum’s shoulders sag in relief.

John, chuckling, said, “She got you there, son. I’m off to check on my wife, see if I can get her hustling before sundown.”

“Funny,” Callum said as John walked up the back steps and into the house.

“I sure thought so.” She slipped her arms around his waist. “But you know what?”

“What?” He put his hands on her shoulders, running his fingers back and forth, giving Leah goosebumps.

“You would have driven to Melbourne in my Mazda if you thought that’s what I really wanted.”

“No, I wouldn’t have.”
