“Bullshit. I’m on to you.”

“Okay. Maybe.”

She pressed herself against him. “I think you deserve a kiss.” Her heart rate increased as he slowly lowered his head, but just before their lips met, he pulled away, a wicked grin on his face as he stepped backwards. “Oh no you don’t.” Leah grabbed his shirt front and hauled him back, pressing her lips hard to his, tracing his lips with her tongue until he opened them. She sighed into his mouth when he put his arms around her, molding her body to his and kissing her passionately.

“Phew,” he said when he finally broke away. “We’d better hit the road before I drag you into my room.”

Leah chuckled. “Okay.” Callum put her suitcase in the back, called out to his parents that they were heading off and closed the door behind Leah as she slid into the front seat of the low car. “I didn’t know you had this. Is it new?” she asked when he got in behind the wheel and gunned the engine. It purred to life, reverberating through Leah’s seat.

“No, I’ve had it for years. I keep it stored in Genoa, since I don’t really get the chance to drive it that much.” He set the car in reverse then put his hand on the back of her seat as he turned back to look down the drive. Leah looked at him for a long moment. “What is it?” he asked, turning out onto the road.

“I forget how rich you are.”

“Yeah?” He asked, easing the car into first gear.

“Yes, because you just aren’t flashy with it.”

“So I look like a bum, is that what you’re saying?” He teased.

She smiled. “In my experience, men with money seem to feel the need to throw it around. Show everyone they’ve got it. You know what I mean?”

“That’s because your experience is with fuckheads.”

She laughed outright then. “True.” She settled back in her seat as Callum turned onto the main highway, relishing the feel of the warm sun on her face and the wind in her hair. “So what kind of car is this?”

“Are you serious?”

“Yeah, like it’s fast and red and shiny. But a lot of cars are like that. I’m just wondering how impressed I should be.”

“You’re killing me. It’s an Aston Martin, DBS Volante. It’s a five hundred and sixty nine horse power, zero to sixty two miles in three point eight — and you couldn’t care less.”

Leah laughed. “I’m very impressed, if that helps.” She reached over and rubbed his thigh in apology, loving the feel of his fingers curling around hers and holding her hand there when she went to pull it away.

As they drove, giant gumtrees threw their dappled shade across the highway. Sheep grazed in paddocks under a mellow sun. Leah glanced up to see two wedge tail eagles circling high above them. Glorious. It was all so glorious. Being in love was also glorious, she thought, surprised at herself. She’d been hit pretty hard by the realization that she was in love with Callum. She’d panicked. But once she got used to the idea, she liked it. She had no intention of telling him just yet. Their relationship, or whatever it was they were doing, was way too new for her to mess with. So it was just her own delightful little secret.

They passed through the little town of Cann River in a blur. Callum asked Leah if she wanted to stop, but she was happy to push on to Lakes Entrance. Sitting in this beautiful car with Callum beside her, her hand held loosely in his, was hardly a trial. They were about twenty minutes out from Lakes Entrance when Leah said, “Mikayla gave me some interesting advice yesterday.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah, she said if I definitely wanted car sex, I should tell you that I’m not wearing any underwear.”

He swallowed. “I see.”

She didn’t say anything as the next few miles flew by, then as they neared Lakes Entrance, she said, “Callum?”

“Mm?”

“I’m not wearing any underwear.” She grinned when he shifted in the seat, suddenly uncomfortable. He might have saidsweet Jesusunder his breath. “Everything okay?”

“You’re a vixen.”

“Thank you!” She said, beaming at him and rubbing her hand on his thigh.

“That’s it.”

Leah gave a start as a roadside hotel came into view and Callum sped up. They were going to get a hotel room? For, like an hour? But Callum went past the hotel, turning into a picnic ground just beyond it. Leah felt a hot thrill hit her and she felt suddenly breathless. He tooled the car carefully into a grove of trees well beyond the picnic area.

Leah was half in his lap before he’d even turned the engine off, giggling when her bottom hit the steering wheel and the horn went off. “Ssh,” he said, laughing against her lips as he helped her into position. She felt his hands at the tie of her dress and she drew a ragged breath as he pulled it down, exposing her bare breasts. “God, I love these dresses you wear,” he said before bending his head. She buried her fingers in his hair as he kissed his way down to her nipple, taking it into his mouth, rolling his tongue over it until Leah was almost sobbing with pleasure.
