“Jewelry.”

“Sweet.”

In the jewelry store, Mikayla wandered along next to a long cabinet. “How does my brother manage to get the price tags taken off everything?”

“He doesn’t. He shops at places that are too classy to have price tags.”

“Oh, yeah.”

“Mikayla.” Leah and Mikayla turned at the urgent note in Juniper’s voice. She gestured quickly. “These earrings.”

“I love those.”

Leah gestured for an attendant. A tall, thin blond woman padded over, making barely a sound on the lush carpet “The amethyst and emerald drop earrings, thank you.”

“Certainly.”

Mikayla held them up to her ears, smiling. “Too easy. We’ll take these ones, thanks.”

“Lovely. I’ll package them up for you.”

“What about you guys? I like the idea of emeralds for Juniper and amethysts for Leah.”

“That’s perfect. Look at you, spending like a queen,” Leah said, bumping Mikayla with her shoulder.

“Diamonds for Mum.”

“Jesus, settle down.”

“You started it.”

“Your brother started it. I’m just the messenger. Or minder. Or something.”

They finalized the jewelry purchase. Mikayla rolled her eyes when the assistant advised that she would arrange for the packages to be delivered to the hotel. “I’m jaded by all the luxury now,” she said as they headed back out to the limo.

“Mik.”

“Yeah?” Mikayla leaned back in the plush leather of the limo seat, her eyes closed.

“You’re all done.”

“Huh?” She opened one eye, squinting at Leah.

“Dress, shoes, jewelry, bridesmaids dresses, mother of the bride dress, shoes and jewelry for us. It’s all done.”

Mikayla sat up hastily. “It is, isn’t it? No wonder I’m knackered.” She flopped back on the seat.

“One more stop.”

“Unless it involves copious amount of food and wine, I’m not interested.”

“You’re interested,” Leah said as the limo glided to a halt in front of the Windsor Hotel. “High tea.”

“No way! I’ve always wanted to do that here. You might want to take a nap, Douglas. We’ll be here a while.” Mikayla grinned as Douglas chuckled.

They headed into the grand hotel, following Leah into the dining room. With its high ceilings, luxurious, patterned carpet and high-backed chairs, it was a sight to behold. They were led to a table near the window overlooking the street. “Douglas took my advice, I see.” Leah followed Mikayla’s gaze, giggling when she saw the limo driver lying back in the front seat, his hat pulled low over his eyes.

As two uniformed waitresses brought cake stands filled with goodies, Mikayla almost groaned in ecstasy. The savory trays held ribbon sandwiches, mini quiches filled with smoked salmon, gourmet pies and savory tarts. For sweets, they had scones with jam and Chantilly cream, profiteroles, macaroons and tiny chocolate mud cakes.
