“There he is. He’s early.”

Juniper and Mikayla looked down the street. “That weedy guy with the receding hairline and terrible shirt?” Juniper asked.

“Yeah, that’s the one.” Leah watched her ex-husband, standing on the corner looking at his phone, typing furiously. Her phone pinged.

Scott:I’m here. I haven’t got all day.

“Dick.” Leah ignored the text, watching as Scott pushed his fingers through his thinning hair. The man was clearly agitated. Watching him, Leah realized she felt absolutely nothing for him. He had no power over her anymore. She felt her nerves dissipating. She narrowed her eyes. She could do this. “Think I’ll get this over with.”

“You don’t want to wait for Callum?”

“Nah. What’s Scott going to do to me, in the middle of the street?” She pushed to her feet.

Mikayla grabbed her arm. “You want us to come?”

Leah looked back down the street. Scott was texting again. Her phone pinged again. “I think I’d prefer to do this on my own, if that’s okay.”

“Of course it’s okay. But if he so much as looks at you sideways, I’m down there. Right?”

Leah blew out a breath. “Right. Thanks.” She squeezed Mikayla’s fingers and rubbed Juniper’s shoulder before walking steadily down the street to her ex-husband. “Scott.”

He spun around to look at her and Leah took a step back. His eyes were wild, perspiration linned his upper lip and his hand was shaking as he slipped his phone into his back pocket. “Leah.” He stepped forward, like he was about to kiss her. He reeked of sweat and something else. Something deeply unpleasant.

Her hand flew up. “Don’t touch me.”

He stopped dead, something flaring in his pale blue eyes, then quickly disappearing. “How are you?”

“Fine.”

“Good. That’s good. And ah, that place you moved to. Do you like it?”

“Sure.”

“Great. I’m good, if you’re interested.”

“I’m not.”

Acting as though he hadn’t heard her, he continued. “Kikki’s not doing so well. Second pregnancy is really getting to her. She’s ah, sniping, I guess you could say.”

“How terrible for you.”

Completely missing the note of sarcasm, he said, “Yeah, it’s not great. She’s ah, kicked me out of the bedroom and ah —”

“Scott, I can’t tell you how much I don’t care about this. What do you want?”

His eyes widened in surprise, flared again with an unnamed emotion. He put his hands in his pockets, rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet. He looked at her for a long moment. “You’ve changed.”

“Yeah. I’ve met someone.”

“Right. That’s great. Is he…ah…does he…”

Leah folded her arms across her chest and tapped her toe impatiently. “Is he, does he, what?”

“Have you slept with him?”

“Fuck off. That’s none of your business.” Anger burned in his eyes at her language. He hated hearing people swear. “Actually, you know what. I have slept with him. Not that we sleep much.” She laughed mirthlessly. “He’s the hottest fuck a girl could ask for.” A vision rose in her mind. Callum, dragging her into their hotel room after dinner, pushing her back against the door and kissing her. He’d pulled her dress off, and her bikini top. Then he’d turned her around, skimming his hands over her breasts while he rained kisses down her naked back. He’d slipped his fingers between her legs and she’d come hard on his hand.“I’ve been thinking about doing this to you since you sent me that photo,”he’d said, lifting her hands and putting them on the door, sliding his hands down her body, removing the bikini briefs. She’d cried out when he pushed into her from behind, gripping the back of his neck as he pounded into her. She felt molten heat pool in her belly at the memory.

“There’s no need to be crude.”
