Georgie studied him. “I see. So, now that you’re home, that means you did what you planned?”

“Yeah.”

“Which means what, exactly?”

“I’m a millionaire.”

“Fuck off.” Georgie couldn’t hide her astonishment.

“No, it’s true. I am.”

“How?”

“I met a guy in India. We became friends. We’ve designed a phone app. It’s guided meditations. Breathing exercises. That kind of stuff.”

“Get out!” And if that wasn’t just like Brandon. To take something awful, his addiction and turn it into something amazing. Georgie couldn’t be happier for him.

“No, it’s true,” he said again.

“That’s insane.”

“Yeah, I wasn’t really expecting it to go as well as it did as quickly as it did. So I’m back to buy you a house.”

Georgie’s mood plummeted. “I don’t need money, Brandon. I’ve got bucketloads.”

“You do?”

“Yeah, I got a lot of compensation from the building collapse. To pay for all the surgery and therapy. Millions.”

“I see.”

“But I do need something else.”

“What’s that?”

“You to stick around.”

“I’m definitely doing that.”

“Good. Okay. That’s good.”

He looked at her searchingly for a moment. She braced herself. “You look like shit, George.”

She almost laughed. Leave it to Brandon to go straight to the heart of the matter. “I know. But I don’t want to talk about it, so don’t push me.”

“Okay.” That surprised her. “Your note said you’re staying here?”

“Yeah, that’s my cabin,” she replied, gesturing to her cabin.

“For how long?”

“As long as I like.”

“Why Blessed Inlet?”

“Leah Kaplan’s here. Well, Leah Sinclair now.”

“No way!”
