“Mmm hmm. All right.”

“Bye!” He mirrored her cheerfulness from earlier, making her laugh. And this time when she walked into the store, she turned to him and waved.

Cam was full of nervous energy pulling up to Emilia’s house to pick her up at six-thirty on the dot on Saturday night. He was introducing her to his world, and it felt like a big deal. He knocked on the door and Annie, who he remembered from Moving Day, opened the door.

“Hey, Cameron.” He felt like she was giving him the third degree, the way she looked him up and down. She definitely wasn’t checking him out. She was sizing him up. “Emilia still needs a minute. Come in. Hannah! Cameron’s here.”

“Hey Cameron,” Hannah’s head popped out from the kitchen. “Want a drink?”

“Hey, Hannah. No thanks.”

He heard movement upstairs and turned just as Emilia appeared. She was a vision in a long black, sleeveless gown with a plunging neckline. The V ended just below her breasts and his breath caught in his throat.

“You look…” his voice trailed off as she glided down the staircase because he couldn’t think of a word that would accurately describe her.

“Thanks,” she smiled as she drew level with him. She was standing on the last step so that they were at eye level and he noticed the golden flecks in her brown eyes shone even brighter than usual. “So do you.”

He moved in and gave her a warm, lingering kiss. “Hello.”

“Hi,” she grinned at him and passed him her overnight bag. A shot of heat ran through him and he had to tell himself to get a grip.

“Shall we?” He held his elbow out and she placed her hand gently in the crook of his arm.

“You kids have fun!” Hannah called from the kitchen.

“Don’t do anything we have to come and bail you out of prison for,” Annie said, grinning.

But Cameron hardly heard them. His eyes were fixed on Emilia. He had no idea how the hell he was going to get through the night without losing complete control. His dick twitched just thinking about it.

“What the fuck?” She said it so suddenly it jarred him out of his fog. He followed her gaze and let out a laugh when he saw she was looking at his car, parked across the street. It was a low-slung Corvette in matte black.

Emilia looked over at him and grimaced at the amused look on his face.

“What? You thought I’d drive my truck to a fancy event?”

“I didn’t think about it to be honest, but I definitely didn’t think you’d drive around in a Corvette.”

“I don’t, usually. But I wanted to impress you. Is it working?”

“Usually it definitely wouldn’t, but the combination of you andthat caris pretty lethal.”

Sliding into the car, Emilia gathered up her dress so as not to get any of it caught in the door and waited for him to close it. He climbed in beside her and revved the engine. He couldn’t help the laugh that burst out of him when Emilia actually squealed in delight.

“Oh this is going to be fun,” she said and her eyes gleamed at him as he pulled away from the curb. “I have always loved Corvettes.”

“Have you?”

“Yep, ever since the first time I heard Little Red Corvette. Prince was a God and nothing will ever convince me otherwise.”

“I am not going to disagree.”

They pulled up at a stop light and Cam took the chance to go through his playlist. Prince’s voice filled the tiny sports car, and Emilia smiled at him with absolute pleasure.

“Wait.” Reaching out to turn the music down so they could talk, Cam put his hand on her thigh and squeezed. “Tell me about the youth center.”

“Well, it’s made of bricks and mortar and is a center for youths.”
