Fuck.

(Luna)

Squeezing the small teddy bear that was in my hands, I stared at the display before me. I didn’t know who the woman was that had her arms around Zach, and I didn’t care. What I did care about was that they seemed to be close and I had no idea who she was. Not that I had to know every single woman he knew of course. God, I was losing my mind. He made me this way. He made my feelings all fucking jumbled and now he was hugging another woman when it should be me consoling him. He calledmeand yet there he was, standing with…her.

But whoever she was, she was well put together. She had long blonde hair that was pulled back into a ponytail. Her slender but curvy figure fit perfectly in Zach’s arms. The sight of it forced bile to my throat.

Zach released her and stepped back, running a hand through his dark hair.

The woman turned around slowly, her bright blue eyes widening when they landed on me. “Luna?”

“Clara,” I gasped.

Zach looked between us. “You two know each other?”

“Yeah, from the center.” I shook my head, a light laugh escaping me. “Well, this is fucking great.”

I swallowed hard. Clara had always been beautiful but seeing her in Zach’s arms made me see her in a different light. She was stunning. Tanned skin, sapphire eyes, and a perfect complexion. Even her tits were fucking perfect. Although she was covered completely, I could still see the swell of her breasts hidden beneath the white loose dress shirt she wore.

She tilted her head to the side.

Yeah, I’m checking you out.

But much to my surprise, she ran toward me. “I’m sorry. I’m so so sorry. I didn’t know. I never knew it was you. I swear I didn’t know.” She pulled me in for a hug. “We never went on that date. I promise we didn’t. Zach said there was someone else.” She held me at arm’s length. “Please believe me.”

“He told you about me?” was all I could say.

“Yeah.” She leaned back, cupped my shoulders, and gave me a big smile. “I wish I would have known it was you. I would have kicked his ass in your direction from the moment I met him.”

“You never saw him at the center?” I asked, not that Zach made an appearance there often, but I still needed to know.

“No, I didn’t. I know this is fucked up, but I promise you, I am not that girl.”

“What are you doing here?” I asked her, vaguely aware that Zach was watching this whole exchange between me and Clara.

“I was meeting up with my mom for breakfast. She’s one of the nurses on this floor. And I saw Zach. I would love to get together with you though. Know more about you instead of just bumping into each other at The Dove Project. We could go on a double date.” She shrugged. “That kind of thing.” She grabbed my hand, pulled me toward Zach, and pushed me into his arms. “He needs you.” She started walking away and waved over her shoulder. “I’ll text you.” And with that, she disappeared down the hall.

What the hell just happened?

“Luna.”

The deep voice sliding into my ears, pulled me from my thoughts.

“How’s your father?” I asked Zach, taking a step back and putting some distance between us.

“We haven’t heard anything yet.” Zach’s breath hitched. “He had a heart attack.”

I gasped. “I’m so sorry.” I handed Zach the teddy bear. “This is for your dad. I’ll go see how your mom is.” I went to head into the waiting room when his next words stopped me.

“I didn’t realize you two knew each other. You don’t need to be jealous.”

I glanced at him over my shoulder. “And you wouldn’t be?” I raised a hand when he went to speak. “We are not having this conversation here.”

“Did I interrupt something?” Brogan asked, stepping out of the waiting room with a coffee cup in her hand.

“No.” I walked past her and sat in one of the chairs furthest away from him.
