I dropped my knees, sitting Indian-style, and sat forward. “Tell me.”
“Not yet. I can’t.”
“Not until I’m wrapped around you.” I slumped back against the couch.
“Yeah, Piper. I need to look into your eyes when I say it. When you say it.”
My chest tightened, a lump forming in my throat. “What time should I be there tomorrow?”
He gave me a time and our discussion quickly ended after that when he was told his time was up.
When the call was disconnected, I walked down the hall of my small house. I had just moved into it not too long ago. Boxes still needed to be unpacked but I wasn’t worried about them at that point.
Once I reached a room at the end of the hall, I took a deep breath and entered. My thoughts traveled back to that night at the bar. Because of that night, a new life was created. Even though Jaron and I had things to work through, we had this. Together, we could conquer whatever was thrown in our path.
My heart beat hard for a man currently sitting behind bars. A man who saved me from a monster. A man I loved.
“I love you, Jaron,” I whispered, finally voicing the words out loud. After all this time, I gave in to the feelings I had for him. Now I just needed tomorrow to come so we could take this to the next level. Even if it was just one step at a time, it was a step that I wanted to take.
With him.
