He nodded, grabbed my hand, and led me from the office.

But once we stepped out into the hall, we were stopped short by Uncle Greyson standing with a few of the members of Devil’s Rejects. When I looked harder, I realized that they weren’t wearing leather cuts. So maybe they weren’t actual members. I recognized the one big guy as the driver who brought me to this place with Tommy.

“Tanner.” I tugged on his hand.

“What is it?”

“He was there.” I nodded toward the large guy who stood with a smaller one. Tattoos lined the side of his head and thick neck. Something was eerie about him. About both of them. But I couldn’t quite put my finger on exactly what that was.

“You take my girl?” Tanner let go of my hand and charged for the guy who only stood there with his arms crossed under his chest.

“Nope. I was just the driver. I would have told you that earlier, but you seemed preoccupied.” He feigned a yawn. “But she’s fine. Is she not?”

“That’s beside the fucking point,” Tanner growled, pushing him. When the guy didn’t budge even a step, Tanner shoved him again.

“Listen.” The bigger guy grabbed Tanner by the collar of his hoodie and shoved him up against the wall. “I didn’t hurt her. I’m not the one who hit her. That was Tommy. But you already took care of that. Didn’t you?”

“Stop.” I rushed to them but of course, neither of them would budge. “I’m fine. I promise that I’m fine.”

“See? She’s fine.” The man released Tanner, readjusted his hoodie and patted his cheek. “I like to think I had a little hand in keeping her safe.”

Tanner scoffed.

“Um…he did actually,” I said, still not overly sure what the hell was going on but was glad that we were finally moving forward.

“How?” Tanner grabbed my hand and pulled me into his side. “Tell me.”

“My mouth got away from me and I told Tommy off. I called him a pussy for having a prospect do his dirty work and I told him that he should have taken me if he wanted to show how big of a man he was. He hit me and this guy here, told me that if I kept my mouth shut and did as I was told, I wouldn’t get hurt. He also got me some ice for my cheek when we got here. Tommy was only trying to scare me, and it worked. But it pissed me off even more. The only thing he wanted was to take over your club. He said he didn’t care about Sunny’s ex-wife. She was just a means to an end. The power, money, and everything else were an added bonus I guess.” I shrugged. “But I promise, I am fine.”

Tanner searched my face before looking back at the men surrounding us. “Why don’t I know you?”

“The name’s Bryson Rain but most call me Bear.” He stuck his hand out as a smaller man came up beside him. “And this scrawny fucker is Kitson Moore. Or Kid but you already knew that.”

Tanner shook his head. “Wait, what?”

“It’s like he’s psychic,” Kitson said, resting his arm on Bear’s shoulder. “I’ve always been called Kid and you didn’t even know that.”

“We need to go,” Uncle Greyson said, coming toward us. “We’ll explain on the way home. Don’t make me fucking repeat myself.” He spun on his heel and headed toward a door at the end of the hallway. “Bear and Kid, that means you too.”

“I hate being told what to do,” Bear mumbled.

“Really?” Kid’s eyes lit up. “It’s not that bad.” He winked, waggling his eyebrows.

Bear chuckled, shaking his head. “I’ll remember that.”

“Kid,” Tanner repeated. “I know you.”

“Maybe you do. Maybe you don’t.” Kid turned and started following Greyson out of the club. “I guess you won’t find out until later.”

“Tanner.” I kept his hand firmly in mine and led him outside and to the twins’ SUV. “We need to go.”

“Hold on. There’s something I have to do.” He kissed my forehead and pulled away from me before heading back to the entrance of the club. When he disappeared into the building, I thought that maybe this was it. That maybe he had truly lost himself and allowed the demons to finally take over.

For good.
