“Untie me, baby.”

I rushed to her and dropped to my knees before untying her wrists and ankles.

She pulled the gag from around her neck and over her head before tossing it to the floor.

Once the fabric fell, I was on her.

Everything happened so damn quickly tonight, my head was spinning. But I focused on the fact that Tanner was back in my arms. Sammy and Cyrus had driven him hours away. When they had left, all hell broke loose. Tommy’s crew had shown up and tried shooting up the place but Uncle Greyson was ready. I was just never prepared for Frankie to come take me.

“I have questions,” Tanner said, pushing his face into the crook of my neck. “But I need to get you out of here first.”

“We can talk later.”

He nodded, rising to his full height and held out a hand.

I took it, letting him help me to my feet just as the office door swung open.

Tanner pushed me behind him, shielding me. “What the hell are you doing here?”

I looked around him, my eyes widening at seeing Uncle Greyson and… “Daddy?”

Both Dad and Uncle Greyson looked between each other before they glanced back at Tanner and I.

“We’ll explain everything but we need to get out of here,” Dad said, leaving no room for argument, his dark eyes landing on Tommy’s still body.

“Did you have some fun?” Uncle Greyson asked, nudging Tommy with his boot.

I braced myself, almost expecting Tommy to jump up and get his revenge. But when he didn’t, I let out a slow breath.

Tanner looked down at me, his brows narrowing.

“I’m good,” I told him. But I wasn’t. I knew Tanner had a dark side to him. He warned me of that. But seeing it in action made me feel almost…I wasn’t sure how I felt. But when I realized that I wasn’t scared of him and almost proud of what he did instead, it sent a sour taste to my throat. I should have been scared of him, shouldn’t I? He killed Tommy in front of me. I understood why he did it. I got it. He saved my life and avenged Trigger and everyone else who Tommy had hurt, but it still didn’t make it right.

Tanner brought my hand up to his lips, brushing his mouth along my knuckles. “Tommy had Trigger killed and took my girl.” He looked back at Uncle Greyson. “He deserved more than what he got but I didn’t have a lot of time.”

Uncle Greyson nodded.

Tanner looked back down at me. His eyes were dark, stormy. They pleaded with me not to give up on him. On us. I wouldn’t. But I had questions. He had told me that he killed his aunt and uncle. A part of me wanted to ask how many others he had killed. But then at the same time, I also didn’t want to know.

“Come.” Dad headed to the door of the office before turning back to us. “You okay?”

I nodded. “I am.”

“She’s lying,” Tanner blurted.

My head whipped around. “I am not.”

Dad grunted. “Probably. Her mother would do the same thing.” He shook his head. “Women.”

“Ganging up on me now?” I asked Tanner, raising an eyebrow.

“Nah.” He kissed my cheek. “Just making nice with your old man.”

I cupped his face, searching his eyes for something that indicated that he wasn’t alright. But when I couldn’t find anything, I brushed my thumb along his bottom lip instead. “Take me home.”
