“Start up the SUV.” Sammy threw the keys at her without taking his gaze from mine.

Busy muttered a curse. “Then you need to lock up.” She gave Sammy her keys, looked at me one last time, and quietly left the house.

Cyrus leaned against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest. “I don’t like how you’re looking at our cousin.”

“Yeah.” Sammy’s brows narrowed. “What’s up with that? You’re not going anywhere without her? Really?”

“She saved my life.” I shrugged like it was no big deal. “And she’ll also stop you two fuckers from finishing the job.”

“How do you figure that?” Cyrus pushed away from the wall. “You don’t even know her. She could have saved your life as you put it, to take you out or let us finish the job.”

It didn’t matter. I knew because I could feel it in my bones.

“Whatever.” Sammy headed to the door. “Let’s get this shit done and over with. I have better things to do.”

Cyrus grunted, following his brother to the door. He turned back to me when he saw that I hadn’t followed him. “I suggest coming or else what happened tonight, will be the least of your worries.”

As much as I didn’t want to, I complied and left the house. Finding Busy standing on the porch, it took everything in me not to go to her. I wasn’t sure where these new feelings were coming from. I had never been attracted to a woman before. I had sex just for the sake of doing it. It wasn’t like I couldn’t pay for it but when body parts didn’t work, it made it almost impossible to get any enjoyment out of it. So I gave up and took up working out. Running and spending time with…my chest ached, the sudden thought of Trigger sending a wave of grief crashing down onto my shoulders. Closing my eyes, I gave myself a shake. I pushed those thoughts to the back of my mind. I would deal with them later. I didn’t need the twins seeing my moment of weakness.

When I opened my eyes, Busy was looking right at me.

Under normal circumstances, I would have been pissed that she saw the vulnerability in me. But instead, I welcomed it. I couldn’t dwell on that either, knowing I needed to get this stab wound double-checked, so I could find out everything there was that made up Busy.

WHILE WE DROVE AWAYfrom my house, I couldn’t help but wonder exactly where we were going. I suggested the hospital but then remembered that my grandfather used to have a whole operating room set up at his clubhouse. I could only assume that it was still there. I would have suggested it, but I knew that my grandfather didn’t like surprise visitors, so I thought better of it.

“Where are we going?” Tanner asked, resting his hand on the bench between us. His pinky accidentally grazed the side of my hand.

I jumped at the unexpected contact.

He rested his hand on his lap, letting out a soft sigh.

I handed him a bottle of water.

He nodded once, his pinky brushing along the side of mine again. That time, it was intentional and definitely not an accident.

A spark shot through me at the soft touch. Quickly pulling my hand away, I dropped it on my lap and cleared my throat.

Tanner smirked, drinking from the bottle of water.

“We’re going to see a friend.” Cyrus’s gaze flicked to mine in the rearview mirror. “Safer than the hospital. Less questions that way.”

“We’re going to Grandpa’s?” I asked, sitting forward. Maybe I should have suggested it in the first place after all.

“Grandpa?” Tanner repeated.

“Your grandfather isn’t there,” Cyrus told me, ignoring Tanner. “He’s away for the weekend, doing who knows what.”

“That’s who I called,” Sammy added. “Figured your uncle owed us a favor.”

I snorted. “My uncle doesn’t owe anyone favors. Ever.”

“Who’s your uncle?” Tanner asked, clearly trying to get information.

“Kian Wolf,” I told him.

He laughed.
