Truth was, I didn’t really care. But I was surprised the guys hadn’t killed me already. Especially after everything I had done.

Even though Greyson Mercer was one of the good guys, it didn’t mean that he didn’t have a reputation to uphold either. Word had it that he had helped bring down a human trafficking ring. I didn’t know how he got involved in that, but I respected the guy because of it. As much as I didn’t like people, I didn’t like bastards who tried throwing their weight and power around even more.

Before we made it into the large house, a tall man followed by Greyson, came out the front door. They stalked toward us.

I stopped.

Greyson had a deep scowl on his face. “I’m only going to ask this once. What the fuck ishedoing here?”

Busy stepped in front of me.

Sammy smirked, moving off to the side. He clearly didn’t give a shit what his president did to me. And Cyrus? He looked between Greyson and me, something flashing in his eyes. Worry? Concern? I wasn’t sure. I was about to ask when Greyson closed the distance between us.

“I don’t hear anyone answering my question,” he said, his voice rough.

“Uncle Greyson, I can explain.” Busy crossed her arms under her chest, lifting her chin and staring her uncle down. Seeing her stand up to a man who was twice her size, because of me, stirred something inside of me. The fact that she felt the need to protect me in any way made this attraction I had for her grow into something more. It didn’t make sense. Especially when I had only just met her tonight.

“Bee, what the hell is going on?” Greyson asked, his face softening when he spoke to her.

“Maybe we should go inside,” the tall man told him. I noticed then that Vice-President sat on the patch above his heart. He was Catch Hunter. I had never met him before. I hadn’t met most of them. But clearly my name had gotten around, and I wasn’t sure how I felt about that.

“Fine.” Greyson spun on his heel and stomped toward the large house.

Sammy cupped Busy’s shoulder and led her away.

A growl lodged its way in my throat over the fact that another man was touching her.

I went to take a step forward when she glanced at me over her shoulder, her gaze locking with mine.

“Hey.” Fingers snapped in my face.

My jaw clenched. I was met by Catch’s icy cold stare.

“I don’t know you. I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting you,” he said, his voice monotone. “I don’t know why the fuck you’re here, but I don’t like it. And I especially don’t like the way you’re eye-fucking my niece.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” What was with these guys and being observant as hell? Although, I couldn’t say I blamed them. It would be the exact same reaction I would have if a stranger was on my property.

“Right,” Catch said slowly, drawing out the word. “I suggest telling Greyson why you’re here. Give him some sob story that I’m sure you’ve mulled over and then be on your merry fucking way. Got it?”

“I need help,” I heard myself tell him. The hairs on the back of my neck tingled, my stomach clenching with each passing moment that Busy wasn’t around. My heart started racing. I took a deep breath. I didn’t need Catch to see me this way.

So vulnerable. So broken. So torn between doing what was right and what was wrong. I needed help but I needed answers more.

Catch’s sapphire eyes searched my face. “Word has it that Nero likes you. He actually called Greyson and vouched for you. Why?”

“I have no idea,” I mumbled, going to walk past him when his next words stopped me.

“You touch her, you even think about touching her, and I will do things to you worse than what was done to those dogs you saved.”

I was surprised that little fact had gotten around. It had been something good I had done. After saving a bunch of dogs from a dog fighting ring, it had leaked out that I had gone crazy. It wasn’t the case. It just pissed me off that the dogs were used in the first place.

I took a breath, ignoring him and walking to the house that could either save me or be my true and final death.

I was betting on the latter.

Tanner

AS SOON AS Istepped into the large house, which I never actually got to truly appreciate, they were on me. I was forced to my knees by Catch with another guy I didn’t know, standing on the other side of me. I expected this moment to happen sooner but was thankful it didn’t. I didn’t want Busy to see her family this way. And I especially didn’t want her to see me on my knees. If that ever happened, it would be because I initiated it.
