When I reached my room, I pulled my phone out of my pocket to check and see if I had any missed texts from Lori and Heather when a throat clearing made me jump.

Aunt Eve and Aunt Sara were sitting on the love seat I had against the far wall.

“You scared me,” I said, clutching my throat and trying to ease the racing of my heart.

“Sorry.” Aunt Eve stood and went to my bookshelf. “We need to talk.”

“What are you doing up so early?” I asked them, shutting the door behind me.

“It’s almost ten,” Aunt Eve told me.

“Oh. What did you need to talk about? Have you been talking to Sammy? I swear nothing’s happened.” Not enough anyway.

Aunt Sara laughed. “That’s usually what they always say when something’s happened or about to happen.”

“Maybe I should have gone home when my dad offered for me to go with him,” I mumbled.

“Listen.” Aunt Sara glanced at Aunt Eve before looking back at me. “We know something’s going on. We’re not stupid. Catch told me there was a thing but he wasn’t sure what it was. But I know. We both know.”

“I don’t even know Tanner.” But I did. Even though we hadn’t known each other for long. My feelings for him were strong and they were very real. No matter what he said or how hard he tried pushing me away, both of us felt whatever this was.

“Your dad is going to lose his mind, Bee,” Aunt Eve said gently.

It had always amazed me how someone as soft spoken as her was married to my Uncle Greyson.

“We love you.” Aunt Sara rose from the couch and came toward me. “We just want what’s best for you, but I know that when your dad finds out, he’s going to freak out or worse, Bee. We won’t be able to do anything about it. I don’t even think your mom will be able to calm him down.”

“Tanner didn’t do whatever everyone thinks he did,” I insisted.

“And you know that for sure?”

I met Aunt Sara’s gaze. “No. I don’t have any proof or anything, but I feel it. I know he’s telling the truth.” I slumped on the edge of my bed. “I believe him.”

They sat on either side of me, taking my hands in both of theirs.

“Our guys are bikers. It’s a given that they’ve done some shady shit,” Aunt Eve explained. “Did you know that your Uncle Greyson saved my life?”

My head whipped around. “He did?”

She nodded. “We had lost your Aunt Trixie and Jaron was taken from us. We don’t like to talk about it. A lot of shit went down and it’s hard to relive. Point is, people were trying to separate us. All of us. But we were determined and your uncle’s stubborn.” She winked.

I laughed.

“I haven’t met Tanner. Have you?” she asked Aunt Sara.

Aunt Sara shook her head. “But he seems to have caused quite the stir. I haven’t seen my husband this grumpy in quite some time. It’s probably why all of the guys are miserable.”

“But he hasn’t done anything.” I huffed. “He’s been in the basement and he’s not even allowed to come out just in case someone here sees him who isn’t supposed to see him.”

“We know,” they both said in unison.

I rose from the bed. “Thank you for looking out for me but nothing’s happened.”

Not yetgoing unsaid.

“Well, we’ll leave you alone. Just please be careful.” Aunt Eve pulled me into her arms. “That’s all we ask. Oh, and just a warning, we won’t tell your father any of this but us girls have to stick together.”

My heart jumped to my throat. “Are you going to tell my mom?”
