“Piper is due anytime,” Cyrus explained, rising from the bed. “I called Cheesy and Locke.” He nodded toward Sammy. “And Sam of course.”

Jaron stabbed a finger against Cyrus’s chest. “You should have called me too.”

“I’m sorry.” Cyrus looked down at me. “I just thought...”

“I get it.” Jaron nodded toward me. “How are you feeling?”

“Better,” I whispered. I was sore but the meds were doing wonders for the pain.

Cyrus stared at me, a smile finally reaching his eyes.

You gave me a voice again,I signed quickly for him.

His jaw clenched, something flashing in his eyes. I didn’t know what it was, but I had a feeling that I would eventually find out and that I wouldn’t like it.

Cyrus

Ididn’t like seeingAinsley in bed like that. She was small to begin with but now she just looked almost frail, and she was anything but. She was the strongest woman I ever knew. After what she had already survived, I was worried that this would set her back, or worse, but there was now a hardness to her gaze that made me realize something. These fuckers would never get to her again. They may have had her body, but her mind was hers and hers alone.

“I love you, Cyrus,” she whispered, her eyes fluttering closed.

I was lying on my side in the bed with her. We didn’t care that there technically wasn’t enough room. We needed to be close to each other. We needed to reassure each other that we weren’t going anywhere. Which was true. The only place she was going after leaving the hospital, was to my bed at the clubhouse.

“I love you too, pet,” I finally said, kissing her cheek.

“Cyrus?”

I lifted my head, finding Jaron and Sammy standing at the foot of the bed. I never even heard them come in.

“How’s she doing?” Sammy asked, the anger he once felt for what I had with Ainsley, no longer there.

“Sore, I imagine, but I think the pain meds are helping,” I said, my voice low, careful not to wake her.

“We have some news,” Jaron said, passing a glance at Sammy.

I pulled my arm out from under Ainsley’s head. “I’ll be back, baby,” I whispered, kissing her cheek.

“Okay.” She sighed, her eyes remaining closed.

I followed Jaron and Sammy out of the room, thankful when I saw Cheesy and Locke standing on either side of the doorway.

“What’s going on?” I asked, not liking the fact that Ainsley was now alone in the room without me.

“Rowan did some digging,” Jaron said when we were out of earshot from anyone who could possibly listen in on our conversation.

“And?” My heart jumped, not liking the fact that Jaron was stalling and didn’t come out with the information like he usually did.

“The brothel Ainsley was saved from, was torn down and rebuilt as a hair salon, but it’s still just a front for what they really do. Rowan got in contact with some people he’s worked with before and found out that this salon is actually owned by...” Jaron hesitated. “Price.”

My eyes widened. “Price Davies?” The old mayor of this town who almost destroyed Jaron and Piper’s lives. “The fuck?”

“Since he’s not mayor anymore, I guess he’s really making his rounds through the shady shit he’s been known for,” Sammy added. “But we still can’t prove anything. That guy though, the one who stabbed your girl, he was caught lurking around the apartment complex for the last month. I saw the footage, Cyrus. Whenever Ainsley left the building, he was there. When you dropped her off, picked her up, left in the damn morning, he was there. But we couldn’t get a clear shot of what he looked like. All we know is that he’s a man, maybe six feet or a little taller and my size. And we know he’s Caucasian. That’s it.”

“Fuck me.” I ran a hand through my hair. “That doesn’t help. At all. What about Price? Any word on him? Has anyone seen him at this salon? We need to end him.”

“Trust me. You know how much I want my hands around that fucker’s throat,” Jaron bit out.

“Then why haven’t we picked him up yet?” I demanded, not liking this sense of urgency rushing through me.
