I give him a smirk. “That Bugatti is mine, too?” I ask.

We step out of the car and I walk toward the middle garage and he leans close and hugs me from behind. “You can have whatever you want, Mrs. Cortez. Now let me show you something special.”

We enter the modern house with birch wood flooring and lots of glass. The design is breathtaking with vaulted ceilings and a pool with lanterns that flicker with candles. He even remembered the farmhouse table I loved so much. The house smells brand-new with scented candles giving it a warm home feeling.

There is a big wooden sign that says “Welcome to the Montgomery residence” above the fireplace.

“It’s gorgeous, Mase.”

We pass the gorgeous island with white quartz counters and low-hanging farmhouse-styled lighting. “You’re gorgeous. Right this way.”

We walk down a long hallway and he opens a bedroom door and I gasp.

“Oh, Mason!”

It’s all the baby items from the store. He had them recreate the room just like in the store with the modern crib. There is a wall painted with angels and tears slide down my cheeks.

“Our baby may be in heaven, but our baby will never be forgotten. This room will be for the baby we will have when we try again. Boy or girl, it doesn’t matter. Whenever you are ready, I’m ready. We have a home, the way we talked about. I listened to every detail, Lucy. I have always loved you, and I will always love you. You’re it for me,preciosa.”

“I love you, Mason. I will always love you. This is beautiful. And it’s close to our family. It’s perfect.”

“We will grow our family, no matter what. You are my queen. This is just the beginning.”

My eyes fill with tears, and he lifts me up in his arms and shows me the master suite on the second floor. It is gorgeous with an oversized California king-size bed and lighter floors and modern birch wood furniture. The oversized windows look out into an infinity pool. There is a door leading to a modern glass balcony with lounge chairs and a table to relax.

The master bathroom has a glass shower, just like the one in Abu Dhabi.

“Mase, it looks just like…” I trail off.

“Like the one in that hotel room in Yas Island,” he finishes for me. “We can have more of those showers together.”

His phone rings, and he picks up the call. He walks out to the balcony in his designer sweats and tight grey T-shirt looking flawless as it molds to his impressive frame.

Looking around the room, admiring the impressive California closet, he walks back inside. He has an angry frown and his fist clenched.

“What is wrong?”

“I need to head to California. Juancho is there, and he is planning to come for you.”

My heart begins to pound inside my chest. “When?” I ask.

“More importantly. He plans on coming for you here. He knows where you live or lived which is the same thing being that we live a couple of houses down.”

“How do you know?”

“Joaquin and the other Kings have people looking out. I also run an MC chapter in California called the King Cartel. No one fucks with the MC, not even the police. They help us run pills and guns for the Cortez Cartel. Leo runs the side for the Santos Cartel in East L.A. all the way to New York. Colton has ties with the mafia because his mother and his father have the development thing going strong in real estate. Colton runs his side in Mexico, but you know he is very discreet with his dealings. He jokes around Luciana, but Colton is every bit as ruthless as we are. It is how we get intel so fast.”

“I am going with you.”

“No. It is too dangerous.”

I walk up to him and tilt my head, giving him a hard stare. “Our mothers live here and you know they will kill them. They don’t know how to defend themselves and they are too social with their friends. They will slip. We all know that. My father will send an army here and it could give away who we are, Mase, or he will make me take them out.”

He nods, closing his eyes and pulls me into his arms. “I know, baby. I can’t lose you. I’ll die if something happens to you, Lucy.” He pulls back and looks at me with a worried expression. “I’ll set it up. We leave within the hour.”

“Okay.”
