“What does a real man do?”She pressed her lips together.

“This.”I grabbed her by the waist and pulled her against me.I looked down into her shocked eyes and grasped her face before pressing my lips against hers.

“You, you kissed me.”She sounded as breathless as I felt. There was a weird thudding in my head, and it felt like the floor beneath me was moving.

“Only repaying the kiss you gave me earlier tonight.”I winked at her as she lightly touched her lips.

“But th-that was a real kiss,” she sputtered, and I wondered if she’d never really been kissed before.I wanted to grab her and kiss her again.I wanted to feel her body against mine.I wanted her to melt into me.

“As I said, it seems to me you’ve only been dealing with boys.”I squared my shoulders and looked directly into her eyes, waiting for her to take in what I was saying, and then continued.“I’m all man, Valentina.Trust me, there’s nothing boyish about my two hundred and twenty pounds of muscle.”

“That was quite the kiss,” Valentina said breathlessly, her hazel eyes looking at me in surprise. My heart thudded as I stared at her dazed expression. Her lips were still trembling, and I knew I’d affected her just as much as she’d affected me.

“What? Our first kiss didn’t affect you this way?”I teased her, chuckling slightly as she ran her hands through her long dark hair and blushed. How I wanted to run my hands through her hair.In fact, I could picture doing a hundred different things to her while pulling her hair.It was long enough to cover her breasts if she was riding me.I grew hard just thinking about that possibility.

“No, it didn’t.”She shook her head, then she looked over at Gabriella, who was practically gawking at us.Gabriella’s face reminded me of a little kid seeing Santa Claus for the first time and wondering if they were dreaming or not.

“You two are absolutely magnetic.I feel like …” she said finally, a look of awe on her face.

“Gabriella,” Valentina said quickly, her hair swinging in front of her face.“Don’t make this something bigger than it is.”She gave Gabriella a pointed look, which seemed to resonate something inside of her friend because Gabriella pressed her lips together and shrugged.

“There’s nothing magnetic about Sam and me.”Valentina looked at me with a wondrous smile that lit up her whole face.

“I'm just saying.I would love for a hot guy to just come up and kiss me.”Gabriella looked slightly disappointed as she looked around at the crowd.“But surprise, surprise. No one's coming up to me and pulling me into their arms.”

“Is there someone here who you like?”Valentina asked her with a softness in her voice I hadn’t heard before.“Who do we have to go and flirt with?”

“I mean, there are loads of good-looking guys here.”Gabriella shrugged.“But it’s not like they’re interested in me.”

“I’m sure they would be if you’d give them a chance,” Valentina said, touching her friend’s shoulder.“Don’t you agree, Sam?”

She looked over at me, and I was slightly frustrated. After that kiss, I’d thought she’d be putty in my hands, unable to talk or think about anything but me and my virility.Apparently, I’d been wrong.“You’re gorgeous, Gabriella.Any man here would love to be with you,” I said honestly, even though all I wanted to do was talk to Valentina about our kiss.

“I noticed you didn't kiss me, though,” Gabriella said with a pout, and I tried not to ask her if she was crazy.

I nodded slightly with a warm smile on my face.I didn’t have the patience for this bullshit.“Well, that’s because Valentina kissed me first. It would have been weird for me to then kiss you.”

“What if I had kissed you first?”Gabriella said, looking apprehensive.I stared at her for a couple of seconds.I could see that she had low self-esteem, which, surprisingly, made me feel bad.She was gorgeous, but she didn’t seem to realize it.

“If you had kissed me, I would’ve been smiling from ear to ear,” I said.“You do know you’re a very beautiful woman, right, Gabriella?”

“Yeah, yeah.I am the girl-next-door beautiful,” she said, rolling her eyes.“I’m not a stunning one-night stand, rip-off-my-clothes-now sort of beautiful.”

“You don’t want to be a one-night stand girl.”Valentina wrinkled her nose, looking even cuter than she had before.“Trust me, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.”

I looked at her in surprise.“So you’ve had a one-night stand?”

“I didn’t say that,” she said with a grin.“But anyway, a woman doesn’t kiss and tell.”

“Ah, but I’m not asking you to kiss and tell.I’m asking you to tell me about your previous—”

She cut me off.“Really, Sam?”

“Sorry.I guess it’s none of my business.”

Her lips twitched.“You’re not the sort of guy I thought you would be.”

“And why is that?”
