“Yeah, but you forget, I grew up with just my dad.He wasn’t exactly known as a chef.We basically ate meatloaf and lasagna every week.”

“At least he could make meatloaf and lasagna.”

“No.You ever heard of Stouffer’s?”

She started laughing.“I sure have.”

I started cutting up the tomatoes.

“I’m going to put on some music.Do you like Frank Sinatra?”

I nodded.“I love him.”

“Some people call me old blue eyes,” she said, finishing my sentence, and I grinned.

“Well, you know, I do have the blue eyes.”

“Do you have a voice like Sinatra as well?”

“I wish.”I chuckled.“I can’t sing for crap.”

“Oh I’d like to hear you sing.”

“Well, maybe one day we can go to karaoke,” I said.

She paused and looked at me thoughtfully.“You know what’s really funny?”

“No, what?”

“I was at karaoke the other night with Gabriella, and we were singing our hearts out to Pink and Britney Spears.”

“Oh yeah?”I feigned ignorance. There was no way that I was going to tell her that I tried to figure out what karaoke spot she’d been at so I could go and see her.

“Yeah. We like to do karaoke when we’re feeling down or if a guy’s trotted on our heart.”She chewed on her lower lip.“You know how it is.”

“I guess so.So is Gabriella upset with Sergio?”

Valentina burst out laughing.“Upset is an understatement.Your brother is a jackass.”

“He doesn’t mean to be.He just doesn’t know how to talk to women.”

“You can say that again.I mean, he’s gorgeous and all, but he just does not know how to flirt.”

“Trust me.It’s not his fault. Most of the women he meets are just bowled over by his good looks.”

“I can see that,” she said.“He is very handsome.”

I felt myself growing slightly jealous at her comments.

“So you like him then?”

“No, Sam.I like you.”

“I thought you loved me,” I said, putting the knife down and wrapping my arms around her waist.

“Sam.”She giggled as I pressed my lips against her neck and then kissed my way up.

My teeth bit her earlobe, and she giggled.
