Her gaze settles on mine, and my breath catches in my chest as we stare at each other.“No.I’m sure about what I want.”

There’s nothing sexy about our conversation. If anything, it’s probably one of the most mundane conversations I’ve had lately. And yet, my body feels like a live wire, tingling with electricity and just looking for somewhere to go.I’m convinced if we sit here any longer, there will be actual sparks.I can’t pretend anymore.

“Are you seeing anyone?”

Her eyes widen and her mouth pops into a perfect O.She stares at me for a second longer before answering.“Um, no.”

Relief floods through me and I can’t help smiling.“That’s good to hear.”I shift in my seat, suddenly nervous.“Would you want to go out with me sometime?”

For a split second I think she’s going to give me an exuberant yes, but then the sides of her mouth fall into a frown and that distant, sad look I’ve seen her get one too many times fills her gaze.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“Why not?”If it’s because of her dad, I can’t really argue with her, but I could try to convince her to at least give me one chance.

She nibbles her lip and shakes her head before saying, “I just think it’s better if we keep things professional.”

That’s bullshit.I might believe her if she didn’t look at me like it’s gutting her to tell me no.There’s something else, something she’s not willing to tell me.And I think it’s the same thing that made her shut down when I told her I liked her before.

I’m grateful we still have at least a month left to record this album because it means I have time to figure out what’s really going on and find a way to convince Tamsin that she can take a chance on me.

I can be patient.
