“Like I’m going to discuss my sex life with my little brother.”

He stepped in closer. “Would you rather talk to Judith?”

“I’d rather not talk at all. I’m confused enough as it is.”

“Told you!” she heard Judith say from the living room, and again, she shook her head.

“It’s complicated. I don’t really have anything here to fix for dinner, and don’t feel like pizza.”

“Chinese takeout?” Justin suggested.

“Yeah. Yeah, that sounds good.”

“Judith has them on speed dial.”

“On it!” Judith called out from the living room. “The usual?”

“Extra crab rangoon,” Katrina answered.

“Okay.”

“Anything else you need?” Justin asked her, his hand on her back.

“Time to think. And I’m running out of it. I don’t want things to be strained between us during the opening, and that’s tomorrow night.”

“Go to Mom and Dad’s in the morning.”

That meant making the drive to Willow Creek Road.

Could she handle going back?

Of course, she could. She was just going to her parents’ house. She wouldn’t be driving past to the Torrence estate, wouldn’t be driving past where Lorenzo almost lost his life.

And she could see Lorenzo.

She could make this right.

“Pick a movie or I will,” she heard Judith say, and Justin turned back towards the living room. He paused, looking over his shoulder at Katrina.

“Any suggestions?”

“Something hilarious,” she answered before taking a sip of her beer. “Give me a minute and I’ll be out there.”

Justin grinned. “Hilarious, you say? I think I can handle that.”

“I said hilarious, not obnoxious.”

“We’re going to Python it.”

Katrina almost smiled. “Go for it.”

***

Lorenzo had been hisusual quiet self, but something to Katrina just seemed off. He wasn’t smiling as much, had barely laughed during their Monty Python marathon the night before, and had barely shown any affection towards her.

Something was wrong.

“Hey,” she said to him during their bus ride home, “everything okay?”
