“What happened?”

Katrina looked at him, confused for a moment, then back down at her tissue. “Nothing,” she lied.

“Then why are you crying?”

“Can we not do this now?” She looked out her window, watching the passing scenery. “I know it’s a long drive, and I’m just tired, Justin. I’m just tired.”

He reached over and placed his hand over hers. “And I’m here when you’re ready to spill.”

“You have a work thing.”

“No, I don’t. I have a sister who’s hurting.”

Hurt wasn’t even the right word.

She was torn, confused, elated, and devastated all at the same time.

“Trina?”

“Please not now,” she said, and she closed her eyes, feigning sleep the rest of the way home.

CHAPTER 34

Freshly changed inyoga pants and a t-shirt, Katrina emerged from her room to see Justin and Judith still there, waiting for her. “I still don’t feel like talking.”

“I told you she got laid,” Judith piped up, and Katrina felt her cheeks get hot.

“Can I get you anything?”

“We already helped ourselves to your beer,” Justin replied, and Katrina nodded, knowing she needed one herself.

“We could call Lorenzo over, have a game night,” Judith suggested, but Katrina shook her head.

“He has stuff to do at the bar.”

Plus, he knew she was having a problem wrapping her head around a child that should have been hers.

Judith shrugged. “Movie night it is.”

“Hey,” Justin said as he stood and walked over to Katrina, following her into the kitchen. “Seriously, what happened?”

“Seriously, I don’t want to talk about it.”

“Mom said Lorenzo was coming to see them tomorrow.” Justin reached around Katrina and pulled out another beer. “No judging. Judith is driving. Did you really sleep with him?”
