“Dude,” Justin complained. “Low roar. We discussed this.”

“Yeah, well, I have Dad things to do. Here.”

Katrina watched as they maneuvered the sofa into the house before she grabbed a box that was by the back of the truck. It was labeled for the kitchen, and she walked into the house just in time to hear the beginning of the argument.

“You can’t put the couch there,” Judith complained. “That will totally disrupt the flow.”

“Maybe he doesn’t care about flow, Jude,” Justin replied.

“Feng shui, people,” Judith said, her voice firm. “Look it up.”

“And where does your feng shui say it should be?” Lorenzo asked.

“Opposite wall, facing...hold on, don’t put it down yet...facing this wall, where we will mount the television.”

“I wanted the TV on this wall.”

“No, the light will cause a glare. Just listen to me.”

“Can’t she help set up Miranda’s room?” Martin asked as he grabbed a beer.

“You shush,” Judith said.

“Cade,” Martin directed to Lorenzo, “your family is loco.”

Katrina turned in time to see Lorenzo’s smile. “Yes. Yes, they are.”

“Here’s the hair tie,” Miranda announced as she walked over to Katrina then turned around. “And I’ve decided,” she continued, “that I want my room in pink and black.”

“Ooo good choice,” Judith said. “I have a great design in mind for you.”

“Is it rockstar?”

“Even better. Punk rockstar.”

“Cool,” Miranda replied, and Katrina looked up to see Lorenzo shake his head. “Dad, you said I could have whatever I want. I want it like Cade’s, just cooler.”

“Did your child just burn you?” Justin asked as they huffed their way to the other wall to set the sofa down.

“Shut it,” Lorenzo said in return.

“All set,” Katrina said with a smile to Miranda, who quickly began to skip back to her room. “Judith, can you show me how my room will look?”

“Absolutely,” Judith replied as she followed Miranda.

“Hey! What about feng shui?” Justin called after her.

Martin turned to Justin with a serious look on his face. “Let’s just get the rest of it in before she returns.”

It was well past ninein the evening and everyone except Katrina had returned to their homes. She was curled up on the sofa, tucked under Lorenzo’s arm, content as he played with the ends of her hair.

“I’ve been thinking,” he began.

“Oh, this should be good.”

“I know it seems like we’re rushing this, but we’re not.” He gently kissed the top of her head. “I would like to get married as soon as possible.”
