“It’s nothing.”

“That’s not a nothing face. You suck at poker faces.”

“Trina—”

“Please. Please tell me.”

Judith shook her head slowly. “I’m sorry, but I can’t.”

“Judith, please.”

“I honestly...I don’t know. I’m not sure.”

“But you have some idea.”

“Don’t you?” Judith stood and inhaled deeply. “I should get going.”

“Are you sure?”

“I’d ask if you’re coming to dinner this Sunday, but I’ve got a feeling you’ll be occupied.”

“No, I’ll be there. After visiting hours. And Judith?”

“Yeah?”

“Would you reconsider telling me? Please?”

Judith stood at the doorway, her eyes going between Lorenzo and Katrina. “I’ll think about it.”

CHAPTER 6

To say that Timothywas displeased with Katrina’s decision to cancel their dinner plans was an understatement. Once he found out who the friend was that had been in an accident, he began with a barrage of texts, each one grating on Katrina’s already frayed nerves.

“I don’t have time for this,” she muttered aloud as she typed the words and hit send before powering her phone down. Lorenzo had shown signs of waking and she wanted to give her full attention to him.

Martin had been the one to point out said signs when he had been there earlier in the day. He couldn’t stay as he needed to open the bar, but he had thanked Katrina for coming to let him know. She could only smile and nod, giving a weak “You’re welcome” to him as she couldn’t seem to form many words.

Martin knew the truth.

Judith possibly knew the truth.

But neither were willing to divulge, not when it wasn’t their story to tell.

But it was the story of the man laying before her, tubes and wires and all. He was no longer on the critical list and was now merely ‘stable.’
