“Trina—”

“What did Judith say?”

“She told me to ask you first.”

Katrina took another sip of coffee, her eyebrow raised as she did so.

“Okay, fine, she laughed first. But seriously, if you’re in, I can get Judith on board. If there’s no Emily, I’m sure she’d be fine.”

“But he was friends with Emily first,” Katrina said, her tone more biting than she’d anticipated.

“Do I detect a hint of jealousy, o big sister of mine?”

“No.”

Justin grinned. “Drink your coffee, Trina. There’s so much more we need to talk about.”

“Did he seriously tell you why he was on Willow Creek Road?”

“Huh? No, no, I talked to him about his life. He’s worked really hard to put himself in this position.”

“A position to practically get a bar handed to him.”

“Yeah, well, look at everything Mom and Dad handed us. And why are you being so harsh? This is Lorenzo, Trina. Don’t you see?”

Katrina shook her head, tears filling her eyes as she turned away from Justin so that he couldn’t see them.

“Ican’t believe Christmasis next week.” Katrina brought the hot cocoa out to Justin and Lorenzo who were in front of the fireplace waiting impatiently.

“Yeah, and we’re frozen over here. You and your snow angels.”

“Right, Justin, I didn’t hear you complaining while you were playing in the snow,” Katrina countered. “Here.”

“Thank you,” Lorenzo murmured looking up at Katrina with all the love she felt for him mirrored in his eyes.

“Hey...why does his have more marshmallows?”

“Because Ren is sweeter.” Katrina leaned down and kissed her boyfriend, sighing into him even as Justin groaned.

“Would you two stop it? You’re ruining the moment. Dude, you can give up some marshmallows.”

Lorenzo grinned at Justin as Katrina walked back in the kitchen to retrieve her own hot cocoa. “Not on your life.”

“Did you bring them?” Katrina asked Lorenzo as she reentered the room, and he reached for his backpack.

“It’s all in here,” he said, pulling out a notebook. “The layout, the stage for the bands, the system I’d like to get in there so they don’t always have to piece together stuff. We can run our own sound, like at CBGB.”

“Isn’t CBGB a total dive?” Justin asked as he looked at the sketches, the written business plan.

“So is Cade’s. It’s a total dive bar with local bands and whiskey and beer. And that’s about it.”

“You’ll lose some female clientele if you don’t at least offer rum drinks, or some juice to go with their vodka,” Katrina pointed out as she took her place to Lorenzo’s right leaving him between the siblings.

“Yeah, yeah, there will be stuff like that. And we’ll have food because who wants to have to leave a bar to get food, especially when you’re having a good time?” Lorenzo’s grin was infectious.

“Dude, I’m so there,” Justin piped up.
