“You spent years with the Torrences and this is the place you open?”

“It’s the place I inherited, yes. Just changed the name.”

“Well, your help is no help,” Judith added, her eyes on Martin.

“Yeah, yeah, you’re going to lose a puppy,” he muttered as he went back behind the bar.

“What are you suggesting?” Lorenzo asked, motioning for Judith and Katrina to follow him into the office.

“You’re going to have to close for a little bit to get these renovations done,” Judith began, ignoring Martin’s cursing from behind the bar which was drowned out when the door to the office closed. “And this is your office? You need to move into the 21stcentury, Cade.”

“Bar first,” he said, waving his hand for the two of them to sit as he leaned against his desk, his arms folded, his t-shirt tightening around his muscles.

“The flooring has to be redone. The tables and chairs need to be black, not brown. And there needs to be accents of red. A deep red, like a scarlet.”

“Red?”

Judith flipped her red locks over her shoulder. “Consider it my signature.”

“Deep red could work,” Katrina added, pulling out her phone. “I took some screenshots of logo ideas I had for you.” She held out her phone, which buzzed when Lorenzo took it in his hand.

“A text from Emily,” he said, frowning. “She wants you to call her.”

“That can wait. Swipe to look at the ones I’ve worked on.”

He paused for one brief moment, then began swiping through the phone.

“Your...person you have out there is no help,” Judith huffed. “He kept telling me to mind my own business. This is my business; you made it so.”

“I want to see sketches of what you have in mind,” Lorenzo said, his eyes narrowed as he focused on the screen before him. “This one.” He handed the phone back to Katrina.

“That’s the simplest one. Are you sure?”

“I’m positive. And I saw you couldn’t resist throwing one in with ‘Bar and Grill.’ We’re just Cade’s here.”

Katrina grinned. “I was wondering if you’d notice,”

“I notice everything.”

“Oh, lord, no you don’t,” Judith said, pointing at Lorenzo. “Don’t you go pulling your shenanigans where our girl here can’t think straight. She needs her brain intact.”

“What?” Lorenzo asked, just as Katrina did, even though she could feel heat climbing into her cheeks.

“Don’t ‘what’ me. You two were always that way. Not now. And especially not after the bullshit of you disappearing for ten damn years. You don’t get to play wounded puppy and have Trina being your Florence fucking Nightingale.” Judith stood and motioned for Katrina to follow. “We will be going back to my house to draw up our plans. You can have your help actually do something around here.”

“Wait, wait, wait.” Katrina held up her hands. “I’m not leaving yet. I’ll be there when I’m through.”

“It’s okay,” Lorenzo said to her, holding her gaze. “You can go. I need to get a few things sorted around here. Besides, you two have a proposal to cook up.”

“And you damn well better say yes,” Judith proclaimed. “I want my French Bulldog.”

Lorenzo’s laugh was easy. “Knock my socks off, then.”

Katrina was torn. There were so many questions she had for Lorenzo now that they were out of the hospital, ones she hadn’t dared ask while she’d had to concentrate on the road.

“Trina,” he said, placing his hand on her shoulder, her entire body responding to him. “It’s okay. I’ll see you soon.”

“Damn straight you will,” Judith added.
