“How,howwas that different. And why don’t you ask Lucas what he’s been doing while we’re out at a movie.”

“Did he–?”

Gray nodded, once, and I could feel my face harden, my teeth clench together. We had agreed: one heat.

“I’ll deal with Lucas later, then. But–”

“But what?”

“But wepromised. One heat. Wepromisedwe wouldn’t touch, we promisedher–”

“I didn’t think I would have to worry about this withyou, Rian,” Gray scoffed.

“What, because I belong to you? I’m your property? I can’t have worries of my own?”

He turned away. “No, because you’re abeta.”

It was like a slap.

“I see. I was getting emotional. Jealous.”

“Exactly, yes–”

“You have an omega to deal with now, you can’t afford to have a beta’s feelings to deal with, too.”

“That’s not what I mean–”

“Isn’t it?”

“No, damn it, shut up and listen for a minute!”

“No, you shut up!” I yelled. “We promised! You said–you said we would be okay, that she wouldn’t change us. And I–I’ve beenkillingmyself not to go near her, I can’t even sleep in my own fucking bed because it smells like her, and then I find out you two have gone behind my back to fuck an omega who I can’t bear to eventext, thinking she might not want me–” My voice failed as I tried desperately to hold back the tears that threatened behind my eyes. Youknew,” I said, my chest aching, “you knew I liked her. You knew how hard I was trying, how hard it has been for me to stay away, andstill, you and Luc went behind my back, brought her intoour home–”

“We didn’t want to disappoint you if she says no again.” Gray spoke quietly.

“What?”

“Lucas and I…” he paused. “We do know. You love her.”

“I don’t–”

“Rian. It’s okay,” he said, taking a step closer to me. “It’s–I love her, too, or I could–Iwill, if she gives us that chance.”

I just stood there, letting him approach, one cautious step, then another.

“That’s what yesterday–last night–was about. Lucas thought–he thinks that she’ll stay. That she’ll be ours. But we didn’t want to tell you before we were sure. I didn’t want–”

“You wanted to protect me.” I whispered. Meeting his eyes, I knew it was true.

“Yes, but obviously, we did a shit job of it,” Gray said.

“You’re a shit alpha,” I said, and he smiled.

“But I’m yours.”

I made a non-commital sound in my throat.

“And I always, always will be. Even if you–you leave, I’ll still be yours.”
