As we pull into the drive, I waste no time hurrying to the door. Lucas is hiding something. He knows something.

Reaching for the doorknob, I take a deep breath. If there is anything to give me answers about what happened to Teddy, it’s going to be here. Papers in his office, something in one of the twins’ room. There has to be something I’ve been missing.

My hand connects with the knob, but before I can turn it, Julius reaches for my hand. “Just know everything was for your own good.”

I look at him with confusion lacing my features as he stares into my eyes. Julius has only spoken a handful of times, and each time, it’s been because of something big. Suddenly, I’m scared to find whatever is waiting for me behind the door. Whatever answers I’ve skimmed over and missed must be big, and they know I’ll find them here.

I look behind me and see Lucas standing at the foot of the steps, feet spread apart with his hands balled into fists. He isn’t looking around, but instead staring straight at me, and once I open the door, I realize why he’s preparing for a fight.

In the middle of the foyer stands a ghost in a tailored suit. His blue eyes stare at me from hooded lids as a smile curls his lips, bunching up the pink scar at the peak of his cheek. All of the air in my lungs leave in a whoosh as he steps toward me, and my knees threaten to give out.

His hand cups my cheek as his thumb wipes away the single tear that I didn’t even know had fallen from my eye. “Hello, Monkshood.”

The End… For now
