“Fall?”

“I fucking fell. And every time I’m in this position, I fall even harder.” I shoot my eyes down.

“So, you’re admitting to loving me again even though I’m an ass?” He lifts my face to his.

I shrug weakly. “I’m tired of denying shit, Lucas. I can’t keep suppressing stuff that people think is wrong.” I take a deep breath. “You’re right, I should hate Teddy, but I don’t, and I probably never will. But that doesn’t mean I can’t love you because I do.”

He lets his eyes bounce between both of mine before pulling me back to his chest. “Okay.”

“Okay?”

“If you need to feel, then feel. I’ll be right here. If the only way I can have you is to share you with him, then I’ll do it.”

I wrap my arms around his waist, ready to confess more, but the front door closing has us both hopping to our feet.

Lucas pushes me behind him as he peeks out into the hallway. “Stay here, Charlie.”

I want to argue and tell him no, but today has already been too emotionally draining. I fall back a couple of steps and watch as he walks out the door and closes it behind him. I pace, trying to stay calm, but it doesn’t work. I can’t just sit around and do nothing.

As soon as I reach for the knob, it turns, and Lucas comes back in. “You need to see this.”
