“Go and take a shot from someone’s hand and down it.”

Again, this was a dare she didn’t want.

As it happened, a table was full of shots and three guys doing them, one after the other. Getting to her feet, she went to the guy with the one in his hand, took it from him, swallowed down the fruity tasting mixture, and walked right back to her place.

“Done.”

“I’m impressed,” Noah said.

The game started to heat up, and as one of the guys spun the bottle and it landed on Noah, silence fell down the room at his question.

“Did you fuck Skye while you were away?”

Her cheeks heated, and she stared at Noah.

“I think it’s time we stop playing.” She got to her feet.

“Is that all you fucking care about? While we were taken, did we fuck? Are you seriously going there?”

She grabbed Noah’s shoulder. “Come on, it’s time to go.”

“Dude, it’s a truth question. I’m just asking what everyone wants to know. Since you’ve come back, you’ve been sniffing around her.”

“We’ve been back at school one day,” Skye said.

“No, I didn’t fuck Skye while we were gone. We didn’t do anything but survive. You lame ass losers.” Noah grabbed the bottle and threw it across the room.

“Don’t be a dick,” one guy said.

Derek was on his feet.

“It’s cool. We’re all cool right now, right,” Derek said. “Go to one of the rooms, Noah. Just chill. You look like you could kill someone.”

He looked toward her. “You can handle this?”

“Yes, we’re fine.” She remembered the very sharp, very pointy knife in his pocket. Her only mission right now was to get him out of everyone’s way so he didn’t do something he’d regret.

“I can’t believe those fucks.”

“I can’t believe you let them get to you like that,” she said.

They headed upstairs. She wanted nothing more than to go home but held back, wanting to take care of Noah first, to make sure he was okay.

Noah pulled her into the first available room, shutting the door and locking it. It looked like a spare bedroom as there were no personal items on around. She folded her arms.

“Is that why you looked nervous playing the game?”

“It was only going to be a matter of time before someone asked. You’ve got to see that.”

“I lied.”

“I know.”

“We promised each other what happened in that place would stay there.”

“And I’ve not told a soul. No one.”

He walked up to her, cupping her face. “I will protect you.”
