CHAPTERSEVENTEEN

Wicked Game

“Are you meeting me at Tales, or picking me up?” I ask Hudson a couple days after I danced for Beast at Nine Lives.

My phone is gripped between my shoulder and ear as I paint my nails a deep purple to match the tight leather trousers I plan on wearing to Tales tonight. Dom is up against Ramone, a well-known fighter in the underground fight scene. He has a regular spot at Dixie’s Fight Club in Manchester and he’s travelling down to face off with Dom. It’s gonna be a close fight, both are certifiably insane and rabid in the cage. Then Beast is headlining. He’s going up against Clayton, a South African guy just as big and as dangerous as Beast, but I know Beast will win. He hasn’t lost a fight yet.

“Who are you talking to?” Beast asks as he enters my bedroom, making me jump. I drop the phone and manage to get purple nail polish all over my big toe.

“Ever heard of knocking?” I snipe, swiping up the phone and apologising to Hudson as I balance the phone between my ear and shoulder and soak a cotton wool pad in nail polish remover, dabbing at my toe.

“Princess, who’s on the damn phone?” Beast glares at me.

I give himthelook, the one I know pisses him off. He’s been a grumpy shit ever since I danced for him. He didn’t speak one word to me as he drove me home like he had a rocket up his arse.

More like a boner in his pants.

I let out a snort of laughter at my wayward thoughts which only seems to incite him further.

“Princess,” he growls.

Pressing the loudspeaker button, I place the phone on my dressing table. “It’s Hud if you must know. Are you always this fucking cranky before a fight?”

“I’m this fucking cranky when you won’t answer my damn questions!”

“Alright, Beast? I’m looking forward to watching you fight tonight,” Hudson says through the loudspeaker. I can hear the amusement in his voice, and I grin. I’ve told him all about how Beast’s been acting lately and Hudson’s advice was to fuck someone else to piss him off. When I asked if he was offering, he nearly had a stroke. Not that I’d go there. Hud and I are just friends. Nothing more.

“It’s invite only, prick!”

“I’veinvited Hudson.”

“Well, I’m uninviting them,” Beast retorts, snatching up my phone.

“Oi! Give it back, you fucking brute!” I snarl, getting to my feet. “You’re so fucking rude!”

“Don’t care.” He grins at me, holding my phone above his head. Even if I jumped, I wouldn’t be able to bloody reach it, the gigantic bastard.

“Hey! Are you alright, Kate?” Hudson asks, his voice sounding panicked.

“You keep asking that question and I’m going to lose my shit.Of course, she’s alright, dicksplash, she’s withme!”

“That’s a matter of opinion!” I screech, shoving him as hard as I can in the stomach. He lets out a grunt, but it’s not enough to make him drop the phone. “Apologise now!”

“Not a fucking chance,” Beast says, taking the phone off loudspeaker and pressing it against his ear whilst simultaneously deflecting my attempts at knocking him the fuck out.

“Beast, give me the damn phone!”

“Nope.”

He thinks he’s won. He hasn’t. Sometimes you have to pick your battles. “Fine, knock yourself out,” I huff, striding over to my wardrobe. “I’m over it.”

“See here’s the thing, Hudson,” Beast continues, speaking into the mouthpiece, “You’re not welcome at Tales tonight, or any night for that matter.”

I spin on my feet. “YES YOU ARE! IGNORE THE FUCK!”

“So if you know what’s good for you, I suggest you spend some quality time with your bros and forget about the invite, yeah?”

Hudson must be saying something interesting in response as Beast’s expression changes from one of annoyance to downright rage. “Thefuckyou say?!” he snarls.
