“But I am gonna give you another piece of advice,” Joey says.
I smirk, pulling on a clean shirt, buttoning it. “I’d worry if you didn’t.”
“Loving someone trumps everything else, even your own rules,andany loyalty pledged to another man.”
“Who said I love her?”
Joey barks out a laugh. “A man who doesn’t fuck a woman as beautiful as Grim when it’s offered on a platter is a man in love. Besides, you’ve never spoken about your heart and a woman in the same sentence before. If that ain’t love, then I don’t know what the fuck is.”
“Okay,” I reply, not admitting to anything because I haven’t even admitted that to myself. “What’re you saying?”
“If you truly care about Grim,love her, then you look after her inany wayyou can.”
“This ain’t no fairy tale, Joey. We won’t get a happily ever after. You know that.”
“Maybe. Maybe not,” he shrugs. “Either way, you gotta protect what belongs to your heart, no matter the cost.”
I nod. “Yeah. No matter the cost.”
