“Our dad.”.

“Ourdad,” she agrees. Her gaze lifts to my neck and she reaches up and presses her fingers against my skin. “I like the rose tattoo. It’s really cool.”

“Rose tattoo? But I haven’t got a tattoo…”

“Not yet,” she says knowingly, and I’m suddenly reminded of that time in the ring with Beast when I’d told him that I wanted a tattoo of a climbing rose, thorns and all, inked into my neck. “You’re pretty fucking amazing, you know that?” I say, pulling her in for one last hug, before pressing the book into her hands. “I want you to have this.”

“Are you sure?” she asks, tears brimming in her pretty eyes. She swipes at them as they fall, jutting her chin and straightening her spine, just like a Davidson would.

“I’m positive… Speak soon, okay?”

“Yes,” she whispers just as Sandy and Frank enter the kitchen from the back door, moving to stand behind her.

I flick my gaze between the three of them, feeling happy with my decision. I’d come here this weekend with the intention of taking Christy home, but witnessing the love and affection between them has soothed my heart and shown me that what she really needs is to stay here with them. Carter kept her a secret for a reason and I’m not willing to risk her safety no matter how much I despise him for keeping her from me.

“You take care of each other.”

“Always,” Sandy replies, wrapping her arm around Christy’s shoulder and pulling her into her side as I grab my holdall and stride towards the door.

“Wait!” Christy calls, and when I glance over my shoulder at her she looks at the book in her hands then back up at me. “It’s all going to work out, you’ll see.”

I can’t bring myself to answer. Instead I give her a weak smile.

“Roger was always supposed to be your Beast, and you were always supposed to be his Princess…Queen,” she adds with conviction.

“Bye for now,” I reply, then head out to my car, my heart lighter than it has been in years.
