“So sheisokay then?”

“I don’t know!” I shout, frustration and anxiety making me sharp. “No one’s answering my fucking messages!”

“We’re almost there, Kate,” he says, trying to reassure me as he glances at the Sat Nav. He doesn’t question why I haven’t told him about her before now, he just tells me what I need to know at the moment, and I’m so grateful for that. “It says we’re ten minutes out from our destination.”

“If that cunt has hurt her…” My voice trails off as I contemplate that thought.

“Then we’ll have our revenge,” he states grimly.

“You’re supposed to say she’s going to be okay,” I bite out.

“You know I can’t promise you that.”

“Yeah, I know,” I retort tightly, the pain in my chest just from the prospect of losing her, excruciating.

For the remainder of the journey I sit and stew in my fear, silently going over all the ways I’ll torture the bastard if he’s hurt my little sister. It will be slow, agonising and I will make sure that he feels every single second of pain. Beast is smart enough not to question me further, and even though I realise there’s so much more I need to fill him in on, I can’t do that until I know she’s safe.

Please, please be safe.

“We’re here,” I say a few minutes later as he pulls up outside of Sandy and Frank’s cottage.

I’m out of the car and running up the garden path before he’s even unclipped his seatbelt. By the time he’s joined me, I’m banging on the front door, hollering for Christy.

“They're not here, Kate,” he says, grabbing my shoulders and gently pulling me away from the door.

“Then where the fuck are they?!” I shout, shrugging him off and peering through the front window.

“I don’t know, but there doesn’t seem to be any sign of a struggle,” he says, taking in the neatly kept garden and pretty stone cottage. “Try to calm down. We’ll find them.”

“How?! I told them that no matter what they have to answer my calls and respond to my messages. She was supposed to be safe here!” I yell.

“Kate?!”

We both spin on our feet, and before I can fully comprehend Christy's outlandish outfit, she’s running towards me and throwing herself into my arms, a ball of rainbow coloured tulle and sparkle. “Oh, thank fuck!” I exclaim, hugging her tightly and smothering her in kisses whilst she laughs in glee. Behind her Frank and Sandy look on in bewilderment.

“Kate? To what do we owe the pleasure?” Frank asks, eyeing Beast with a mixture of caution and surprise whilst Sandy stares at him with a hint of colour on her cheeks.

“Alright?” Beast says, winking at Sandy, the flirty bastard.

“Hello…” Sandy says, hesitating, her cheeks pinking up even more as she waits for one of us to fill in the gap.

“The name’s Beas—Roger,” he says quickly, giving me a wide-eyed stare.

Roger? If I wasn’t so overwhelmed with relief I’d burst out laughing. Instead, I unravel myself from around Christy and take her hand in mine, grinning at her. “You look so pretty!”

“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Roger,” Sandy says, making conversation with Beast whilst I haul Christy back against my chest in another hug. “I’m Sandy and this is my husband Frank.”

“What a lovely name for a lovely woman,” Beast replies with a wink that has Sandy pressing her fingertips against her cheeks.

Seriously, is no one immune to his charms?

“And who do we have here?” he asks, turning his attention to Christy who’s peering at him from around my body. There’s a softness in his eyes that has my heart pitter-pattering.

“Christy,” she says, giving him a little wave.

“Hey, sweet cheeks. You’re a little beauty aren’t you. Take after your sister, huh?”

“I can see why you’re so in love with him,” Christy says with a giggle.
