“I escorted them to their rooms and each said they were freshening up,” the guide answered.

Made sense. They’d been on the road well over six days, only stopping when they absolutely had to. Just thinking about it, Micha could feel all the grime on his skin.

“I can come stay in here with you,” Bash offered.

Micha’s cheeks warmed. “Thank you but you can go shower and relax.”

Bash didn’t let him go right away and it made butterflies erupt in Micha's stomach.

“Are you sure?”

No. “Yes.”

Bash nodded. “Okay I’ll come check on you in a bit.”

Micha’s shoulders eased. “Sounds good to me.”

Bash tucked a strand of Micha’s hair behind his ear before he walked away. He watched the bear shifter disappear behind a door only one down from him. Micha turned back to the door that was his and rolled his shoulders back. He went in and made a beeline for the bathroom. The door was open so it was easy to find. They had already brought their luggage in and Micha pulled out fresh clothes. He needed to clean up and for a short while ignore everything.

Once freshly showered and dressed, Micha took in all of his surroundings. He bit his bottom lip. The room was huge; it could easily fit the entire apartment he’d stayed in once. Everything was decorated in bold clolors and the floor was a brilliant marable. But there were rugs too and they softened the coolness of everything. This is better anywhere I ever lived before. The flicker of a memory made his nerves worsen and he began to pace.

There was so much new information and why in the hell had he followed them? His mind kept going back to Eldon pulling them all together to talk. Micha hadn’t even thought about it. The moment Eldon asked them if they wanted to stick by Arden’s side Micha had shouted yes.It was pure instinct.

He was the last one who needed to be anywhere near Arden. Micha had no idea what his savior had done with the information and every single time Micha messaged him or called, it all went unanswered. But Micha wasn’t stupid. Everything that happened was too close together. The moment he’d sent it all over, everything went downhill and Arden had his business taken away.

What the hell had he expected?

Micha picked up the pace as he attempted to wear a hole in the floor. He needed to fix things, but his savior had counted on him. The man had saved him and only asked this small favor of Micha. It had once felt as if Micha was doing the right thing, paying the kindness forward, but lately it felt as if he was betraying those he cared about.

“I need to talk to him and then leave. There is no way someone like me is Arden’s mate.” But even as Micha voiced his thoughts his body refused to move. Tears pricked the back of his eyes and he wanted nothing more than to scream. He had no right to cry or feel hurt after what he’d done.

He forced himself to blow out a breath as he moved ever so slowly to the door. His hand rested on the cool brass handle. He could do this. Arden deserved— Micha had always thought Arden deserved to rot along with his ex but now he didn’t—no he couldn’t see Arden in that same monstrous light.

“We will speak later, Mother,” Arden’s strong voice penetrated through the thick door and instantly had Micha’s heart racing.

“I understand. I only thought that you would have told them of their status to you. We dragons spend centuries searching for our mate and many never find them and yet you have found five.”

“Mother,” Arden growled.

The sound, instead of making Micha nervous, made warmth spread through his chest. When in the hell had that started happening? He closed his eyes and focused on Arden’s voice. Letting the strange sensation work its magic. Micha found himself leaning heavily against the door breathing a lot more calmly than he had before.

“Don’t mother me, Ardenous. It’s one thing to reject another dragon but mates—”

“I never said I was rejecting anything. It is more complicated than that.”

“You are making it complicated,” Anaya said.

There was a heavy sigh before either one of them spoke again.

“You’ve traveled far. I will let you rest for now but we will talk more later about you coming back home for good.”

Micha pulled away from the door, his palms began to sweat, and the need to pace ate at him once more. If Arden stayed, then did that mean PGD was done for? What would happen to them? Micha shouldn’t even be thinking about it because he wasn’t supposed to be a factor. The idea of no more PGD or Arden made him ache as if someone had kicked him right in the middle of his chest.

“What are you doing in here?”Arden bit out.

Micha flinched from the dragon’s harsh tone. “Sorry.” His nerves had gotten the best of him. Staying in the room alone had only made everything worse and Micha had done what he’d been doing for the past few weeks. He sought out Arden.
