“It’s good to see you, Arden. I can’t believe you’re marrying my sister.”

“You know about that already, huh?” Arden shook his head. “Justice must have told you.”

“Something like that,” Janek said. “Congratulations. It’ll be good to have you back on the throne. Right where you belong.”

Unease unfurled in Arden’s chest. He hated lying to Janek, but he and Justice had to keep up appearances. So, instead of telling him the truth, he just went with it.

“It’s good to be home,” he said before he sighed. “But I need to go talk to someone. Can we catch up later tonight?”

“Yes, we can,” Janek said. “In fact I insist on it. Ardoneous?” he called when the dragon started walking away. Arden spun around. “So glad you’re back. We can’t have a hero like you hanging out with the peasants.”

Arden’s brows pinched. “Hmm yes.” He didn’t have time to contemplate what the hell Janek was talking about. Not when Micha was frowning like that.

He walked over to the nephilim who was being stared at by just about everyone in the room. An angel was a rare sight, even if he was only half of one. They all looked curious, but they were at least polite and no one was all over him.

“Are you okay?” Arden asked Micha.

The nephilim gazed up, still frowning. He searched Arden’s face as if he didn’t know who he was at first. Slowly, recognition dawned and he blinked rapidly. It was like he turned back on after having been switched off.

“Arden?” he asked. “Oh uh yes, I’m okay,” he muttered.

Frowning, Arden took a step forward. “Are you sure? We can go back upstairs if you like. Is this too much?”

Micha shook his head hard. “N-no it’s okay. I was just thinking?”

“About what, little birdie?”

His eyes watered and Micha quickly looked away. Alarm bells rang in his head and it took everything in him not to take Micha into his arms, tuck him against his chest, and leave the place altogether. Something had been bothering him about Micha for a long time, but the angel still hadn’t come clean. And now it was bothering him and Arden more than ever.

“You know you can talk to me, right?”

Micha nodded. “Yes, I know,” he said, his voice merely a whisper. “I’m trying, okay?”

Arden backed off. “You want to know something, Micha?”

Big, pink eyes gazed up at him. Finally, he nodded.

Arden leaned down and whispered in his ear. “I think…no I’m damn sure of it.” He sucked in a sharp breath and the words rushed out all at once. “I’m falling in love with all of you.”

He’d never said he loved anyone. Not a single person who had ever spent time in his bed had shared his heart. Now there were five of them that meant the world to him. Even though he’d lost the host club and their future was uncertain, Arden was shocked to realize that he’d never been in such a good place before.

And it was all because ofthem.

Pulling back, he searched Micha’s shocked face. The angel’s feathers ruffled, bristling as if they’d just come in contact with a stiff wind. Arden hadn’t known how he would react, but the abject terror he saw when he looked into Micha’s eyes wasn’t it.

“Micha? What’s wrong?” he asked.

“N-nothing,” Micha squeaked out. He cleared his throat. “I need to go to the bathroom!”

Arden frowned. “Okay,” he said with a nod. “Do you know where you’re going?”

“Yes,” Micha said swiftly, no longer making eye contact. “I just need a minute!” he called over his shoulder.

Arden stayed where he was, staring after Micha. What the hell was going on with him?He took a step forward and a hand wrapped around his arm. His mother gazed up at him with a frown on her face.

“Is everything alright?”

“Yes, Mother,” he said slowly. “But I need to go check on-”
