He missed Micha by a hair and groaned. Slapping his arms to his side, Eldon nose-dived down, surpassing Micha just enough to catch the nephilim. He was hot to the touch, his fingers brushing along a rigid mark that sizzled against Eldon’s fingers tips.

It must have been where the lightning struck.

A shallow heartbeat or a shuddering breath was all Eldon needed to hear. He closed his eyes and concentrated past the roaring wind. Faintly, he made out Micha’s heartbeat.

He was alive!

Relief was short-lived as Eldon realized they were going down and there was no way Ezra was going to catch them in time.

He turned and wrapped an arm around Micha’s wings and placed his other hand against Micha's head securing the nephilim to him. The vampire relaxed as much as he could letting his natural vampire instincts come to life. Every bone in his body could shatter but it would be worth it.

The ground greeted them and everything went black.

He wasn’t sure how long he was out. The only way he knew he was alive was the familiar voice yelling at him.

“Fuck. Eldon! Micha!” Bash’s growly voice broke through the fog of pain. It sounded as if he was saying more but to Eldon’s ears, it sounded like a bunch of growling. Opening his eyes felt nearly impossible even as Eldon fought to see what was happening.

“Stop.” Eldon hissed. “Growling.” Pain radiated through him from head to toe. He noticed there was a lack of weight resting on top of him. The vampire forced his eyes open.

“Eldon,” Bash’s bright green eyes and auburn hair came into view.

“Micha?” Eldon asked. He was reduced to one word sentences. The pain was so severe.

“His heart is beating and he’s breathing. We are taking care of him,” Mya said.

Eldon couldn’t see her but he’d know her voice from anywhere. He’d just have to take her word for it. He let his eyes close once again; it was impossible to keep them open.

“You better wake your ass up or I will beat it,” Bash growled.

Eldon wanted to laugh. “Blood.”

“Wait Bash, don’t. You may be a shifter but you have lost a lot of blood already,” Mya said.

“I don’t care, I can't lose him! I can't lose any of them. Don’t ask me to stand here and do nothing.”

“Arden?” Eldon forced out.

Bash stopped arguing with Mya to answer him. “Justice caught him. Don’t worry about Gamble and Spooky; they have already been bandaged up fully and are stable.”

Thank fuck.

Eldon wanted to reassure the bear but he was losing focus. The blood lust would win out soon and it wouldn’t matter who was near him. “Get.” Eldon audibly swallowed his throat dry. “Away.”

“No!” Bash yelled.

Stupid stubborn bear.Eldon tried to shake his head but it wasn’t moving. The last thing he wanted to do was put Bash in danger.

More commotion resonated around him but Eldon wasn’t able to make out what was going on. His stomach burned and his fangs ached as the need to feed and heal clawed at him to become the monster of the night he was at heart.

He bit down on his tongue adding to the pain his body was already being tormented with. But anything was better than attacking the people around him.

“Open your mouth you stubborn vampire,” Bash said.

Eldon fought against the bear shifter attempting to keep his mouth closed but Bash was having none of it. His hot calloused fingers pressed against Eldon’s jaw digging into the flesh and adding to the pain.

The sweet metallic smell of blood fluttered under Eldon’s nose and he groaned.

“I will cut a hole in your face,” Bash warned.
