“Micha!”

He couldn’t fight the smile and tears that broke free. They’d given him something Micha never thought he’d have.Safety, a home, and love. There was no way he’d let them suffer.

Air through his feathers didn’t feel as it used to. Micha’s wings flapped as he soared toward the dragon. He swerved to the right as lightning struck near him. All the fine hairs on his body stood to attention but Micha didn’t waver.

He pushed himself harder forcing his injured wings to work faster as he went after the dragons. The air near them was charged with electricity and heat, making it nearly impossible to breathe. Micha shook the closer he got.

Ezra roared as Arden’s claws ripped one of his wings. He winced knowing it had to hurt but there was no time to wait for a clear opening. Not when Arden was suffering. Micha didn’t hesitate as he dove in. Electricity shocked him along his skin, but the pain was nothing to what he knew Arden had to be going through. Trapped in his own head. Micha knew all too well what that was like.

Arden roared and more lightning came down. Ezra barely dodged it, one wing holding his large dragon form up. His gaze caught sight of Micha and he growled. But Micha had no idea what he was saying and he had no time to try and figure it out.

The nephilim went for Arden landing on the dragon’s back. Arden clashed with Ezra again and Micha shouted as he nearly fell off. Fire and electricity crashed together and Micha pressed his face against the dragon’s body flattening his wings to his back as he was bathed in heat.

Micha was jostled around and he cried out as he nearly fell off again. The nephilim tightened his hold on Arden as he waited for them to break apart. A pain-filled growl broke through the fighting and Micha’s heart lurched in his throat. Was that Arden?

He lifted his head in time to see Ezra falling from the sky. His dragon tumbled toward the ground. Micha’s eyes widened but at the last second Ezra flipped himself around and his wings flapped the best they could.

Ezra flew down and rolled on the ground. Micha glanced over his shoulder and let out a sigh of relief as the dragon got up and shook the dirt off. He was okay.

Micha clutched onto Arden, wind whipping his face as the dragon flew higher and higher. His stomach flipped but there was nothing left for him to puke. Micha began to climb Arden like a mountain. Scales cut into the flesh of his hands, he gritted his teeth as the nephilim kept moving until he reached Arden’s head.

The dragon’s eye focused on him and it was like looking directly at the beast. There was no Arden but Micha knew the man he’d fallen in love with was in there, somewhere. He just had to drag the man out.

“Arden!” Micha screamed. More thunder and lightning crashed around them.

“Wake up, please.” Micha tried again, trying to force Arden’s dragon back and drag the man forward. Micha had always been useless when it came to using his power, but now when he needed it the most nothing happened. It was almost as if the thing with Janek was a fluke.

Tears pricked the corners of his eyes as Arden roared and tried to fling him off. Micha held on for dear life as his stomach turned and the world twisted around him. His arms trembled as his muscles screamed in agony. Micha didn’t give up, he couldn’t.

“Arden,” Micha cried out. He needed to reach the dragon someway, somehow. “I love you too.” Micha pressed his face against Arden’s head. “We all love you. Knowing everything we all still chose to stand by you. Please Arden come back to us!”

Micha wasn’t sure his voice carried over the wind or the thunder but he kept shouting at the top of his lungs. Even as his voice cracked and he coughed more than he was able to speak.

“P—pl.” Micha coughed hard and it made his entire body shake. “Please.”

Another roar left Arden and Micha felt it to his bones. It sounded like Arden was crying out to him begging for help. He closed his eyes and prayed to the universe to give him this. To let him be strong for them and for himself. Micha had always been cowardly and waited to be saved but this time he needed to do the saving.

“Please, please, please. Arden.”

Micha’s head was filled with anger and sorrow. He didn’t hesitate as he latched onto what could only be Arden. The nephilim imposed his will on the dragon. Pain laced through him as he forced Arden to come back to him. Micha would drag the dragon kicking and screaming if he had to.

Scales started to recede as the dragon got smaller and his form changed to that of a man. Micha smiled, still pushing his power through. He wrapped his arms around Arden, flapping his wings to keep them from plummeting to the ground. Warm flesh pressed against his and he let out a cry of joy at seeing Arden’s face.

“Arden—”

Micha looked up just in time to see a spark before lighting struck down. He didn’t think about it. He let Arden go and moved his body right where the lightning would have inevitably struck Arden. White hot pain sizzled through him pulling a guttural scream from him. Down to his fingertips felt like it was being bathed in fire. He forced his eyes open and spotted a spec.

Arden, someone catch—.

Everything waswrong and it felt like time slowed as both Arden and Micha plummeted toward the ground.Where did he go?Living without either of them wasn’t an option. Eldon wanted to split in half and be able to fly but none of those things were possible.

Justice shifted next to them her scarred red dragon form took off and went after Arden; that was all Eldon needed to see. He vamp sped toward where Micha was falling. His fangs dropped down as his need for blood grew. All the fighting had used up his energy and if he didn’t feed soon he’d go into a blood frenzy but the last thing he cared about was draining a few people. He needed to catch their angel.

A roar echoed behind him and Eldon glanced over his shoulder to see Ezra trying to take flight with his broken wing. It would fucking do. Eldon turned to the side.

“Get as high as you can!”

Eldon jumped and climbed up Ezra’s tail as the dragon tried again to fly. They were getting closer to Micha but all too soon they were dropping from the sky. Eldon lept and outstretched his arms.
