But there was no way in without Arden.

He shook his head and looked down at Spooky. What was he doing?

“We shouldn’t be here,” Micha whispered. He glanced around to make sure the big bad dragon wasn’t around.

Spooky scratched at the door and meowed, uncaring of Micha’s panic.

“Come on.” Micha tried to lead the familiar back down the stairs away from Arden’s private floor.

But no dice.Spooky rubbed against the door and jumped up a few times, grabbing the handle.

“It’s password protected.”

Meow.

Micha bit his lip. What if Spooky knew how to get in? Then maybe Micha wouldn’t have to seduce Arden. That plan was doomed to fail anyway.

Micha sighed and picked Spooky up. “This would be easier if you shifted back into your human form.

He got the kitten version of a scowl, and Micha shook his head. “Oh, you can’t?”

Spooky nodded, and Micha patted his head. “Then shouldn’t you stay in your room? Arden isn’t even here.”

Meow.

Micha felt like Spooky was sayingno shit.

“Do you um…” Should he ask if Spooky knew the code? If he did, would that make him suspicious? But if Spookydidknow and there was no Arden around, it was the perfect time.

“What are you two doing?” Arden’s voice had Micha jumping and nearly pissing himself.

“Um, I think he’s stuck,” Micha blurted out, holding up Spooky.

Spooky let out a meow and started cleaning himself as if he had no care in the world.

Arden’s sharp gaze focused on Micha, and he swallowed back the whimper.

“What’s your favorite color?” Micha blurted out.

“Boy, why are you asking me such a random question when you should be getting ready for the night?” Arden reached for Spooky and plucked him right out of Micha’s hands. The familiar licked the dragon’s nose, and Micha was floored when Arden didn’t throw Spooky halfway across the room.

Maybe he could do this.

Micha tried to pull on the persona he used when he was on the floor with customers. He stepped closer to Arden and smiled at him.

“What can I say? You pique my interest.”

Arden growled, and Micha’s illusion shattered instantly. His legs wobbled, and his heart thumped wildly against his rib cage.Run. His instincts demanded he get away, but his body refused to listen to him.

The heat radiating off of Arden pulled him like a moth to a flame. He knew it was deadly, yet Micha couldn’t quite drag himself away. He took in a shallow breath and was hit with the heady scent of Arden, a spice that tickled the back of his throat and made his mouth water.

A hand went around his throat, and Micha’s brain shut down completely; he was forced to stare into Arden’s amber eyes. He had never been so close to him before, and it was too much. How did anyone get close to the dragon shifter without dropping to their knees instantly?

“Are you sniffing me, birdie?”

Micha’s blood rushed, and he nearly missed the nickname coming from Arden’s mouth. And what a mouth he had. His bottom lip looked good enough to bite. Micha wasn’t blind; Arden was insanely hot. What would it be like to have the coarse hair of his beard scratch against Micha’s smooth face before he took his lips in a passionate and dominating kiss? There was no doubt in Micha’s mind that Arden could and would dominate him in every way.

He knew he didn’t have a chance in hell at gaining the man’s attention.
