"Okay, where is Arden?" Eldon asked.

Gamble shrugged. "No idea."

Eldon pinched the bridge of his nose, and for a split second, his composure was broken. "Okay." Eldon clapped his hands. "You go ahead and finish up your job and I guess help Bash. I'll take care of the table and check on the mix-up with the parties. I was sure I went over everything Arden gave me."

Gamble nodded and walked off before something stupid slipped out of his mouth likebite me, please. He knew there was an entire fetish for vampire bites, but Gamble had never been interested. Well before Eldon bit him and he came so hard he saw stars.

Gamble shook his head and let out a groan when he opened the back door. Gamble snatched the hair tie out of his hair. Soft brown curls cascaded down and rubbed the area Eldon had bit him. His cock was hard and pressing against his slacks, and he was tempted to ease the pressure just a little.

He needed to get the hell out of there; the host bar was doing things to his head and body. That had to be it. He'd never had trouble ignoring his basic needs before now. But it was almost as if he was nothing more than a puppet, and someone else was pulling the strings as his hand drifted down from his neck to the front of his pants. He didn't even have the forethought of glancing down the alley to make sure it was clear. That was how cloudy his brain was.

"What are you doing?"

Gamble let out an undignified shout as he whirled around and stared right into the eyes of his boss. "Uh."

Magic crackled along his fingers, and Gamble was about to shroud himself in clouds, but Arden moved faster than he could track and grabbed his wrist before pushing him up against the wall.

"I asked you a question," Arden growled.

What was with everyone growling?Gamble licked his lips. "Uh, checking the back." And because he apparently had atinydeath wish after all, he continued to talk. "Everyone is looking for you inside. We are too short staffed for you to throw a temper tantrum right now."

Arden's eyes darkened, and Gamble knew he'd fucked up. He clamped his mouth shut. Fuck, he just had to go ahead and keep talking.

"What does that mean?"

Gamble swallowed back the fear tinged with desire and stared at Arden's cheek so he didn’t have to meet the man’s gaze. He attempted to blanket himself in indifference. "Nothing. The new guy has no idea what he is doing by himself."

Arden was silent for a bit, and for a hopeful second, Gamble expected the dragon would pull away from him.

Arden moved even closer, and Gamble's heart skipped a beat. His fingers itched to reach in his pocket and pull out his joint. His nerves were shit, and Arden's stupid rule of being sober during work meant Gamble didn't have what he needed to be calm and collected at all times.

"Are you trying to tell me how to run my business?"

"No... I mean kind of." One foot after another, Gamble was planting them firmly in his mouth

Arden ran a host club, but right now as he held Gamble's wrist in a vice-like grip and leaned over him, he screamed mafia boss. Gamble had half a mind to get down on his knees and ask for forgiveness.

Arden inhaled sharply, and Gamble was all too aware of how close he was. The heat radiating off him was nearly too much. Tiny sparks danced along his spine, and he used every ounce of control he had to keep his face impassive and his gaze set on one point.

The last thing Gamble needed to do was take in the taut muscles in Arden's forearms or how the black button-up hugged his lethal form.

Shit, too late. Gamble yanked his eyes back up and sucked in a sharp breath. He needed out of this. "Why does Spooky get to sleep in your room? Are you fucking him?"

Wow, he couldn't really be this stupid.Gamble wanted to slam his head against the brick wall and disappear in a cloud of smoke. His magic sparked, and he didn't give Arden a second to recover from the question. He slipped his wrist free. Gamble's magic wrapped around them in the next second, and he created an entire illusion around them, turning the back of the building into an ocean. Arden's arms shot out, but he moved them along with his legs as if he was wading in the water. Gamble took the chance for what it was and slipped back inside. The spell would be broken when he let it go, but he first had to get far away.

Spooky waltzed right in front of Gamble, his black tail swishing. "Oh have you seen Arden?" He sniffed the air and moved closer to Gamble. "You smell like him."

Gamble pushed the familiar back, and the moment he touched him, his fingers tingled. He grumbled and yanked his hand away, before he balled his fist. "Wouldn't you like to know?"

Spooky's head tilted, and one of his black cat ears twitched. "Yes, that's why I'm asking." He smiled, and Gamble couldn't help his stupid thoughts.

He's pretty.

Gamble shrugged and slipped around Spooky without touching him. "Go use that nose of yours and hunt him down." Maybe Spooky would distract Arden. If not, then Gamble might be sent back to the mafia sooner than he thought.

Wasn’t that what he wanted?

Gamble was dead.Capital D-E-A-D.
