“But we’re so good together! You even said it yourself! Tara was a bitch!”

Rowan raised a fist as Faith winced back. He then caught himself and lowered it back down. “I’m sorry, Faith. I didn’t plan this, but I have to go. I’m sorry.”

Without another word shared between them, he picked up his suitcase, grabbed his coat and scarf, and hopped into his car, driving south and refusing to stop until he reached the New York City interstate.

“DUDE, YOU REALLY GOTTA STOP obsessing.”

When Rowan got back to the city, he hit up friend after friend, trying to find someone who would let him crash with them while he looked for a job and a new apartment.

Unfortunately, he’d burned most of his bridges when he decided to say “adios” to almost everyone he knew before leaving. To the ones he didn’t, an Irish goodbye was enough to do the trick. Luckily, his childhood friend, Alex Winters, agreed to put up with him for a few weeks, forcing Rowan to promise that he’d get his life together and never bail again.

“I’m not obsessing, Alex. I’m just checking up on her.”

Alex walked over to where Rowan was sitting and snatched the phone out of his hands. “You’re obsessing.”

“Yo, dude, give that back!” He managed to wrestle his phone out from Alex’s grasp and scrolled back to the page he was on. “I don’t understand. Where is it?”

“Where’s what?” Rowan could tell that Alex was rolling his eyes at him; the glare he shot over at him was difficult to ignore.

“Her page! Her Winks page. It’s gone!”

“Maybe you have the wrong handle.”

“No, I have it memorized like the back of my hand.”

“Maybe it’s set on private.”

“No, she’d never do that. She has too many fans relying on her.”

“Dude! I don’t know! Maybe she deleted it. Or maybe she blocked you!” Alex crossed his arms over his chest. “Besides, you’re the one who left her. Maybe it’s a taste of your own karma.”

Rowan was shocked by his comment. He’d never really thought about it like that. Six years, Tara and him had been married, dating ever since they first met in high school. She was just always… there, whenever he needed her. And he’d always taken her for granted. Even when they’d fight, Tara had been there, bringing him back to his senses. Maybe Alex was right.

“Maybe she did block me,” he said quietly, his head lowered.

“Yeah, probably. Sorry for being a douche, man. But all I’m saying is, if someone who vowed to love me forever decided to dump me and shack up in another state with someone else, I’d be pretty pissed off, too. If you want her back, really want her back and not just because you’re horny, don’t stalk her. Give her some time; she’ll reach out to you if it’s meant to be.” Alex looked down at his watch. “Shit, I’m late for work.” He reached over the counter and grabbed his keys and wallet. “Just give it time, dude. She’ll come around.”

“Right,” Rowan replied, his voice hesitant that his relationship with Tara would ever return back to normal.
