And then I’m jetting my come. It’s the most intense orgasm of my life. I feel it in stomach and along the base of my spine. I jerk against her and then still as I empty everything I have into my female.

And then I pull her into my sweaty embrace and kiss her again. “I love you,” I remind her. “And I’m here, with you.”

“Together,” she answers simply.

Epilogue

Skogg

Emma and I are restoring Firebrook castle together.

Everyone knows I was the former “Red Soldier” of Firebrook Castle and they love hearing the story of how Emma arrived one dark and stormy night and “broke my spell” and freed me from my “curse”. And I’ve stayed because I fell in love with her and made her my mate. And now I live here with Emma, who is pregnant with our first offspring.

I admit, it’s a good story.

Because it’s all true.

We live and work here, and I find I enjoy it. There is always much to be done around the castle that keeps me busy. And I am learning how much other beings love the way I am able to slow-cook meat with ebony logs, according to Hyrrokin tradition.

My bound is heavily pregnant and close to her due date, and finally admitted we need to hire more staff. This is because Emma Blackstone is very busy running her popular hotel and restaurant, Firebrook Castle. At the start of next season we will have a new manager and three more staff members. And another tower of renovated bedrooms will be ready for rent. I am pleased at this outcome and looking forward to the ability to spend more quality time with my bound and the new daughter that is one the way.

One darkand stormy night we are startled by a random knock on the front door.

“Who is that?” my bound asks.

I put down the print book I was reading. “I don’t know, we aren’t expecting any more guests. It’s the end of the pilgrimage season.” We were very busy in the spring and summer with guests and large events, but we have recently closed for the second half of the year.

My bound stands and waddles over to open the door.

I walk up behind her and gaze in amazement at the large Hyrrokin male we find standing in the doorway. “Uncle Barnabas?” I exclaim. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m on vacation,” he answers with a gruff voice. “I decided to surprise you with my arrival. I am to be your last guest this season.” His stern gaze gentles as he looks down at Emma. “May I come inside?” he asks her with a soft tone.

“Of course, of course, please come in,” she giggles. “I’ve heard so much about you. I’m so happy you’ve arrived to stay with us for awhile.”

“Y…you took a vacation from Ashmoor Manor?” I sputter, still finding it hard to believe that my uncle has left Tarvos and is in my domicile, on Salo.

“Yes. I came to see my nephew, the one I thought was dead but came back to life—rescued by his human bound.” And then my uncle bends down and gives Emma a big hug. “Thank you,” I hear him whisper in her ear.

I blink with surprise. I cannot believe what I’m seeing. My uncle is the Butler of Ashmoor Manor. He’s second-in-command of the Ashmoor corporation and the right-hand of the fire lord. I’m amazed he was able to get away. He almost never takes time off. And I’ve certainly never seen him hug anyone.

He stands and looks around with a smile of delight. “I know your parents have been here often to visit, as has all three of your sisters. But I thought it was high time I came to visit my wayward nephew.” He hands me his luggage and steps forward into the great hall and looks around at the space. “Instead of following in the footsteps of your ancestors and the rest of your immediate line, you chose to join the military and then after your retirement you joined some sort of off-planet mercenary team. All of which I never approved of. And then we all thought you were dead for a whole year…”

Then he moves forward and sits down and reclines back on a couch.

“I’m staying for the birth of your first offspring. During your off-season I will remain and help you by auditing all of your accounts and your processes. I will make sure your business is running perfectly, ready for you to have all the staff you need to run smoothly next season. I will not leave until I know you are set up for success, and of course not until I’ve met my new half-human, half-Hyrrokin great niece.”

Emma gives him a watery smile and sits down next to him. “Thank you. I…I don’t really have much family of my own and I…I can’t believe how much help we’ve had from Skogg’s family.”

My uncle puts an arm around her shoulders and pulls my bound into his side. “Emma, you are a Blackstone now and Blackstone’s help each other, always,” he says simply.

He meets my gaze and I give him a chin lift and he returns my acknowledgement with a slight nod.

“Well,” I say, “how would you like some home-brewed, Blackstone fire-ale?”

Barnabas laughs with delight. “I see some things never change.”

“No, they don’t. And some beings take longer than others, but they finally end up where they belonged all-along.”
